Berlin transfer by train

I am considering the "Transfer to Berlin by Train" offered by HAL and then seeing the sights I wish to in Berlin on my own. Has anyone done this transfer? Is it difficult to get from the station "just outside Berlin" into Berlin and return?

I hope I don't sound like a broken record on this issue - if this is what you'd like to do, I'd recommend renting a car and driving yourself to Berlin rather than taking the train.
