dlynn0366 Posted March 14, 2015 #1 Share Posted March 14, 2015 I arrive back to NY on the Gem Mar 27/15 and booked my pick-up for 9 am but now see on my itinerary the arrival time for Gem is 10 am. Does it in fact dock earlier than this?
emcelh Posted March 14, 2015 #2 Share Posted March 14, 2015 I arrive back to NY on the Gem Mar 27/15 and booked my pick-up for 9 am but now see on my itinerary the arrival time for Gem is 10 am. Does it in fact dock earlier than this? Yes, it does. The itineraries have been saying 10AM arrival since we took the 9-day cruise in 2013 and we were off the ship before 9AM. They wouldn't be able to start boarding by noon if they didn't arrive until 10.
dlynn0366 Posted March 14, 2015 Author #3 Share Posted March 14, 2015 Thank you so much. I've watched the Gem go out on the webcam several times but never thought to watch her arrival.
Rare mking8288 Posted March 14, 2015 #4 Share Posted March 14, 2015 NCL rather give you a later planned arrival time and then surprise you with being earlier, besides NY harbor & CBP can be unpredictable, and if there are 2 ships coming in. sent from Google Nexus 5/7 via Tapatalk

Rare mking8288 Posted March 14, 2015 #6 Share Posted March 14, 2015 Is this so we don't demand OBC when it's 15 min. late coming in :D :p Hmmm, don't know about OBC for late arrivals - no reimbursement for a "shortened trip" either, somewhere in the fine prints, LOL. Another unpublished fact, GEM is speed rated at 22 knots max. but we're in fact, cruising at 24+ knots, almost 25 knots behind a Noreaster, with a strong tail/cross-wind across the ship's bow when we're sailing her. It slowed down to 17 or 18 knots on the return trip, and further throttle to 12 to 13 knots or else we would've arrived at Pier 90 around 3 AM for disembarkation ... only if CBP would cooperate & staffed their booths inside the pier and cleared the vessel. Peak into our 2012 review to see submarine porthole report of sea conditions, LOL.
