algaes Posted March 14, 2015 #1 Share Posted March 14, 2015 I didn't see this mentioned previously. Travel & Leisure magazine that came today has a blurb on Viking Oceans and mentions this. I dislike salt water swimming but will have to try at least a dip. Ugh!
id4elizabeth Posted March 14, 2015 #2 Share Posted March 14, 2015 Oh bummer! Well at least we'll hope that there's no jellyfish! That's what we have here in Virginia.
Rare Vineyard View Posted March 14, 2015 #3 Share Posted March 14, 2015 And salt water is more kind to your skin than chlorine!!! Not much better on the eyes, but he skin is positive! So is heated!
avonglen Posted March 15, 2015 #4 Share Posted March 15, 2015 Salt water & heated!!! Wow what a bonus! No more itchy skin & sore eyes!!! Hope the weather is kind enough to allow outdoor swimming in the infinity pool. Will the indoor pool be salt water too?
captainmcd Posted March 15, 2015 #5 Share Posted March 15, 2015 I thought it would be salt water, since there would be a lot of fresh water lost keeping the pool filled when the ship was moving, even a little bit. Although I prefer to swim in fresh water, I'm looking forward to a dip in the new pool.
bird of paradise Posted March 16, 2015 #6 Share Posted March 16, 2015 Yay! Salt water swimming pools are the best! So much better than chlorinated!
id4elizabeth Posted March 16, 2015 #7 Share Posted March 16, 2015 Does anyone know if both pools are salt water? Here's hoping the one under the retractable roof is non-salt water. Wonder how they'll keep the water from sloshing out of the pool that's supposed to be in the spa?
bird of paradise Posted March 17, 2015 #8 Share Posted March 17, 2015 Isn't sloshing pool water an issue on any cruise ship? In my experience, if heavy seas are in the forecast, they drain the pool and close for that day. Otherwise - they just slosh a bit. Appropriate drainage is provided in the pool apron to manage the water spillover.
id4elizabeth Posted March 17, 2015 #9 Share Posted March 17, 2015 Ahhh...makes sense. I was wondering about the spa area because that's inside, but I suppose they could have some drainage around the sides. I was counting on really enjoying the spa area on sea days, so I hope they don't have to drain it. That would take away some of the ambience. Bear_Music Posted March 18, 2015 #10 Share Posted March 18, 2015 My Viking contact says the main pool is salt water. He didn't say anything about the infinity pool though...
roothy123 Posted March 20, 2015 #11 Share Posted March 20, 2015 I'm used to salt water on cruise ships, so that doesn't bother me. The first time I went in a salt water pool on a cruise ship, I had to ask which it was, as it was not exactly the same as swimming in the ocean. Cold or warm, I plan to try out that infinity pool! I'm also curious about the Snow Grotto, which I haven't heard much about. Can any brave soul visit it, even if you haven't made a spa appointment, I assume? Rare Vineyard View Posted March 20, 2015 #12 Share Posted March 20, 2015 I would think that the spa will have some type of 'open house' during the trip, or at least offer tours - but not sure if they will allow anyone to experience the spa amenities at any time if they are not having some type of service. I would not expect them to do that....
