I was on a cruise a few years ago with my 10 year old grandson. He sometimes sleep walks and he got up in the night and went out the door into the hallway and I never heard a thing! Thank goodness I did hear him knocking on the door to get back in. An alarm is a great idea!

If you use the chain lock/security double lock or whatever it is called your door is locked for the night. I can't imagine mistaking cabin door for the bathroom door - you would realize it was the cabin door and not the bathroom door as it would be locked.

Just curious if he unlocked the door to get out. I just think a lot of people don't lock the door with the security lock/chain; many people just close the door - same in hotel rooms.

Why do so many here have a problem with this? The OP needs something she feels comfortable with to assure her MIL's safety. Nothing unreasonable about that. Why do people feel it's necessary to tell her why it isn't needed?
