Decided on Alaska after Rocky Mountaineer

Hi all, we have just decided we will do the Rocky Mountaineer in Canada in 2016, followed by a cruise to Alaska. Is there anything we should be aware of right from the start about which cruise line/ship to go on from Vancouver. We are thinking September 2016 - just two of us (53 & 60). Any pointers will be gladly appreciated at the start of our research. Thanks, Auzjak

Only thought is the month and weather.... September is wetter in both Alaska and Vancouver. June-July is better for Alaska ports. July-August is dryer in Vancouver. If you plan activities off the ship (excursions?).... dryer weather is preferred and the price reflects this.

Also how many days are you in Vancouver? You might want 4 or 5 days to really embrace the area.

We were originally thinking September so it would be colder and more 'Alaskan' feeling, but July is actually better as that is my husband's actual 60th birthday. We are planning on spending at least 4-5 days in Vancouver, with an extra two nights at Whistler - not sure whether to drive up there or catch the train. Will definitely have a look at the Alaskan board. Thank you.
