tormtl Posted March 22, 2015 #1 Share Posted March 22, 2015 Anyone know what the earliest train from the port to Rome departs. I am asking because our final destination Civitavecchia docks at 6 am.
greg2014 Posted March 22, 2015 #2 Share Posted March 22, 2015 On website http://www.trenitalia.com/ you will find schedules on dates you are interested in. For today it was: 7:19; 7:34; 8:01; 8:42... (regional trains only) and some intercity trains between. It is really easy and fast to travel from Civitavecchia to Rome - train is going very often, it takes approx. 1:15 (to Roma Termini). Tickets you can buy in machines located in railway station building - cost is few euros (one way), please remember to validate ticket before entering train. For few euros more you can buy combined ticket which is valid also in all public buses/metro in Rome. On parking where shuttle buses from cruise ships are arriving, there is stop of public bus which is going directly to railway station in Civitavecchia (cost 1,5 EUR, going very often). I hope it will help:-)
hawkeyetlse Posted March 22, 2015 #3 Share Posted March 22, 2015 (edited) The question is how early the port shuttles start, and how early the public bus from the port parking lot to the train station starts. 6am is pretty early for this kind of service. Other posters in a similar situation have reported that they had to take an "unofficial" taxi from the port parking lot to the train station. If you need to get off the ship and somewhere else as early as possible, I would consider booking a private transfer. Level six Posted March 22, 2015 #4 Share Posted March 22, 2015 When we were there, about a month ago, the port shuttle started to load up at about 6am and left the ship about 6:20-6:30. The public buses did not start running until 8am. There were a few taxis at the port drop off and several people paid 5 euro each to take them. We walked and made the same train as the people who took the taxi, 7:19am, with luggage. Hope this helps. I think the 7:19 train is the earliest you can make using the shuttle system. We were at St Peter's near 9am, no line at all, just walked thru security and were almost alone there. We then got in line for the vatican museum and waited about 45 minutes. Easy as can be.
