Just off Brilliance - Thoughts and Observations

Thanks for your good review.

About your sense there were what seemd to be almost an excess of crew members/ooficers ,visible all over....might mean RCL deployed an ''observer team'' as is done periodically on all lines.

As well, there might have been some rookies doing the ''live trip'' part of their training.

Glad you had a voyage that obviously met most of your expectations.

Cheers

Interesting! I didn't know they did this. It could have very well been the case. Thanks for the insight!

I am sorry that the OP did not care for Clo the cruise director, we have sailed with her many times and for me she is one of the best.

Just goes to show we all have different likes and dislikes.

Hope she is on our June sailing to the Baltic.

Indeed!! I'm sure she is enjoyed by many or she most likely wouldn't still be with RCCL. She certainly didn't ruin my trip by any means.

Thanks for posting your excellent review. It was very informative and I enjoyed reading it. I am sailing on the Brilliance in a couple of weeks and I will be in a GS. I have a couple of questions that I hope you can answer. :) I was wondering if you had any noise from the pool deck above in your room? How was the food service for your meals in your room? Did the food arrive hot? Can you order from the dinner menu for room service anytime that dinner is being served on board in the dining room?

Thanks again for such an informative post. :)

Hopefully I'm not too late with my response. I just saw your questions.

No noise from the pool deck at all. It was very quiet. I often read on the balcony with nothing but the waves.

Yes, you can order from the dinner menu anytime dinner is being served. The menus are placed in your room each morning. Food was warm to hot. Not piping hot but that's to be expected, I think.

We always ended up with the same room service delivery person. She was very gracious and we tipped her well.

We were also on your cruise, and in a GS - 1600 the aft GS, and had no noise from above. The odd zig-zag maneuver in the early hours of day two was unusual..,

We saw a lot of Clo and thought she was delightful. So Sorry you didn't have the same experience.

We were totally WOWed be the Concierge Lounge service on this ship. Joclyn the bartender and Charmaine, the suite concierge, were amazing.

To answer the Activity Manager question definitively- Mo was the Activity Manager/director. He too was exceptional.

We did My Time dining and loved it.

This was the 2nd leg of a B2B for us. We were in a mid-ship GS on the 1st leg - I believe 1564 and it was very quiet too.

I am spoiled by the GS size and perks, and would find it hard to go back to a balcony.

Maybe their addictive - once you've tried the Suite Life you're hooked [emoji2]

We did Stingray City & two stop snorkle tour in Grand Cayman. It was great, but I confess - the stingrays made me nervous. We did a private all in-inclusive beach resort in Cozumel- Nachi Coccum, based on a Cruise Critic recommendation. It was a lot of fun.

All-in-all it was a great ship, we met some amazing people, and had a fabulous time. I highly recommend the Brilliance, but more for the staff than for its beauty. I think the Serenade is prettier - but that's just my humble opinion.

Thanks for your review, and sorry to jump on with so much

If someone has sailed on Brilliance after 5/1/15 could you let me know who the Activity Manager was onboard. Mo (or Moe) was the Activity Manager and may have been transferred to Enchantment.....so I am looking to learn who is the Activity Manager onboard Brilliance after 5/1/15.

Thanks!

For someone who has not been on this cruise before, I think it's important to note that this is not a "family" cruise. Not to say there is nothing to do for children or teenagers, but we found that the majority of the passengers use this cruise as transportation to/from the States and Europe. It is less expensive than air fare, much more enjoyable, and there are no baggage limitations. Ideal for those people who reside in England during the summer and in the States for the winter. It is also an excellent way to start off your extended European travels.

We have been on this ship before and I did find a slight decline in the ware & tear of the stateroom furniture. It is definitely time to consider remodeling the ship. Also, the projector in the cinema stopped working on the last couple of days.

We were disappointed that they no longer have a wine package and opted not to purchase a beverage package which would have required we drink a lot more wine on a daily basis than we need or wanted to, in order to get any value out of the package. Purchasing wine by the glass ($9+) or by the bottle ($35+) can be costly as well.

Smoke? Yes, there is smoking in the Casino but amazingly it did not travel throughout the ship and into the adjacent bar.

Mother Nature, unfortunately, did not give us her blessing. Most of the travel days were cold and rainy which meant that our plans to visit the outdoor pool and on-deck activities were curtailed. She did bless us with beautiful days each stop we made.... Norfolk, VA, Ireland, France & Belgium. It was back to cold and rainy when we docked in England. Be prepared for cold weather (in the 50's).

There are enough lectures, trivia games, movies, bingo, etc. scheduled throughout the day, to keep everyone busy, in spite of the weather. One of our interests are in playing cards and we did have sanctioned bridge games on board. The cruise director, Clodagh O'Connor, was outstanding.

Was it the best cruise I've ever taken? No. But did we have a good time? Absolutely.

I really felt like this cruise had a lot of activities that we WANTED to participate in. And a lot of family things too which we really enjoyed. I really wanted to do the scavenger hunt, but my daughter opted for the pool instead (i should have just done it on my own!).

When day was the scavenger hunt? When I was on the Allure last summer, the hunt was on a port day and we had an excursion planned and missed it. I really wanted to do it though. We are going on Brilliance this fall and I don't want to miss the scavenger hunt again!!

:o
