catugirl Posted April 9, 2015 #26 Share Posted April 9, 2015 If I had to choose, I'd choose Crown Grill. However, having said that, last year we were on Crown Princes and had a delightful meal at Sabatini's. DH and I would definitely try Sabatini's again. Have fun. laughing husky Posted April 9, 2015 #27 Share Posted April 9, 2015 The manicotti on the Crown was the best I have ever had....and My Mother was Italian......and the risotto was excellent...
Rare geoherb Posted April 9, 2015 #28 Share Posted April 9, 2015 We ate at both on the Caribbean at New Year's. I preferred the Crown Grill, but probably that's because I enjoyed the steak a lot. I had the fish at Sabatini's since I knew we were eating at the Crown Grill the next night and I don't eat a lot of red meat. We won't do as many specialty dining options on our next cruise. On this one, in addition to those two, we had the Ultimate Balcony Dinner and also ate at the Crab Shack--and it was just a 4-night cruise (taken back-to-back after a 3-night one). ChiefBoats Posted April 9, 2015 #29 Share Posted April 9, 2015 Italian, steaks and seafood. It is good if you like Italian. My DW and I like the Crown Grill. We are not big on Italian food. ________________________________________ Island Princess 2008 Alaska, Island Princess 2009 (B2B) Alaska, Royal Princess (Old) 2010 Alaska, Golden Princess 2011 Alaska, Coral Princess 2012 Panama Canal, Star Princess 2012 Alaska, Island Princess 2013 Alaska, Crown Princess 2013 Western Caribbean, Caribbean Princess 2013 Western Caribbean, Royal Princess 2014 Eastern Caribbean, Royal Princess 2014 New England, Emerald Princess 2014 Western Caribbean, Emerald Princess 2015 Western Caribbean
SingerEsq Posted April 9, 2015 #30 Share Posted April 9, 2015 I think this debate has been had before .... We enjoy both, and usually do both. For ambience, Sabatini's is such a beautiful place on the Ruby, Emerald, etc. Our best experience was on the Island under the old style of sort of a "tasting menu." The short rib penne ... to die for, IMO. If you don't like your main course, have them bring you a big bowl of it! The artichoke appetizer .... give me a piece of white bread to wipe the plate. Have enjoyed the lobster 3-way several times. The Crown Grill is fine. However, we just ate at the Crown on the Ruby. The place was practically empty (granted, our seating was at 8) and the service was so sloooooooooow. 2 1/2 hours. Luckily, our group was having fun. deborahjo Posted April 9, 2015 Author #31 Share Posted April 9, 2015 This is making the wait time more exciting for us. You see I am a planner for a cruise and going on this cruise and not knowing which one we will choose is part of it.
chloe45 Posted April 9, 2015 #32 Share Posted April 9, 2015 It's northern Italian food so while there will be pasta, most of the dishes are not what you'd find in your local family Italian restaurant. It's not my favorite Princess restaurant. I've been to Sabatini's several times over the years and every time, I hope it's better. Went last year and I don't think I'll go again. Had the lobster trio and it was awful: rubbery, bland and tasteless. If it were me, I'd try to exchange the gift to the Crown Grill. :) Others will disagree, I'm sure. I agree with Pam. Try to exchange it for the Crown Grill. I found that the menu was mostly seafood which I don't like. They had a Veal chop but it had mushrooms on it which I also don't like. Ordered the schooms on the side and they were on the chop anyway. Ate the sides. Love a good steak and the steaks at the Crown Grill are great and worth the price even if it's not free or a gift. I think on some ships the price for both restaurants are the same now.
