OptionAnon Posted April 6, 2004 #1 Share Posted April 6, 2004 If you're looking for a great way to get one voyage closer to platinum or elite status... 3 night coastal (LA to Vancouver) is looking EMPTY. Obstructed cabins are $216.00 pp including port charges! Once I complete this one I'll be two away from elite! And one way air from Vancouver to LA is 150. And only 1 day off from work. Love it! ManhattanCruiser Posted April 7, 2004 #5 Share Posted April 7, 2004 And even a three day cruise counts the same as a 7 day? That doesn't seem fair -- but I may take advantage of it. Mrs_R Posted April 12, 2004 #6 Share Posted April 12, 2004 There's an online travel agent currently selling inside cabins for the May 14th 3-day cruise from San Francisco to Vancouver for $98 per person. The outsides are $136 (except for Cs and CCs). We booked a couple of weeks ago when they offered insides, outsides and balcony cabins (all except BAs) for $190 per person. Needless to say we booked a balcony! But now the balconies are back up to $383 and the BAs, Cs and CCs are more. I've been monitoring the prices of this cruise and, for a while, two other online agencies had prices prices as low or almost as low, but I'm not finding the $98 per cabin price any where else. I haven't mentioned any names because I don't know if I'm allowed to. -Donna QEII 1973 QEII 1974 NCCL Southward 1982 Sun Princess 2002 Golden Princess 2003 Until the Sun Princess 2004! Murphey Posted April 12, 2004 #7 Share Posted April 12, 2004 I know I'm going to get flamed for this, but does anyone else think it's fair to count a 3 day trip towards Elite status? One interesting side note....last November on the Coral, we were awarded the 3rd most traveled passengers with 20 cruises. At the Captain's Circle Luncheon, one of our tablemates complained that they had 20 cruises also, but weren't awarded anything. As it turns out, Princess said we had many more "days at sea" so, somewhere along the line they had kept track. BTW, getting awarded most traveled passengers is no big deal. BUT, they have made Elite status a VERY nice deal!
mringenoldus Posted April 13, 2004 #8 Share Posted April 13, 2004 I'm really surprised to hear that you have been finding such great prices. I am on this sailing so I monitored the fares on a couple of online sites. They just didn't budge. I noticed that all suites and mini suites are now gone. My relatives have a JJ - I was hoping that they might catch a discount. No luck. CCL Holiday 2000 CCL Elation 2001 CCL Pride 2002 CCL Ecstacy 2003 RCL AOS 2003 Sun Princess May 14 2004!! Logie Posted April 13, 2004 #9 Share Posted April 13, 2004 Hi There are several of the short cruises out there right now for $99 as stated. Check out the popular web sites always listed on CC. The Diamond though is getting closer to sell out and not at that price. I beleive it was the Sun and Dawn. I guess the new Elite program is not going to be seem fair to some people. Is it any more fair to us who can and do take take longer cruises and only get 1 credit for those? I am going on the 3 night coastal and getting 1 cruise credit and then going on the Grand for 10 nights and only getting 1 cruise credit so I guess it evens out in the end. Truthfully if I had the time I would jump on all three of those coastal cruises in May and take advantage of it. ): Good thing though when they have the lunches etc. they do count the days for those of us who cannot take the short cruises. GottoCruise Posted April 13, 2004 #10 Share Posted April 13, 2004 Someone told me Princess does not count those "little 1,2,3 day cruises toward Status? - Does anyone have the scoop on this? and yes - I also think it's unfair not to count days instead of cruises, (but maybe that's because I like the longer cruises -LOL!)...and I haven't seen any of those "short" cruises on the EAST COAST ---- also unfair ! OptionAnon Posted April 13, 2004 Author #11 Share Posted April 13, 2004 You know, often these short cruises end up adding cost to the traveler, and when on a 'repositioning' cruise, the ship often just has ONE port, your FINAL destination. So I think it's fair (that people who pay additional one way airfare back from a port, and don't have the benefits that come with a longer cruise) get credit towards Elite status. I'm at twelve right now, this coastal (my first, btw) will bring me to 13. Just 2 away from Elite. On another issue - I called Princess before making my final reservations with Kim (but I won't mention what travel agency she's with, snicker, snicker) and was assured that I would get 1 credit for this 3 day cruise. Also, my fare was $216 pp for an obstructed on Emerald. Plus 150 airfare to return to LA, that's $366 total. I know now the interiors are going for $329 pp, not to mention airfare... but it was a good deal when I snagged it.

CaptData Posted April 13, 2004 #13 Share Posted April 13, 2004 I did a Panamal Canal 16 day cruise and a 10 day cruise both only counted as 1 each. So I should be elite but I'm still Gold. I will be doing a Hawaii cruise 15 day and I will still be Gold. I'll have 45 days if I continue with the pattern, I'll have 70 days before I am entitled to Platium status and I'll have over 150 for elite. I think they should base it on number of days use 7 as 1 point any extra days goes in a pot until 7 is reached again. This way you need to complete 35 days for Platium and 105 for elite. Hey Princess are you listening!!!!!!! Oh well I still like cruiseing even if It takes me longer to get the status. I live in the middle of Canada so short cruises are no good. stepg Posted April 13, 2004 #14 Share Posted April 13, 2004 I just think we're all just banging ourselves over the head with this "voyages vs days-at-sea" issue for nothing -- Princess has made their decision (as many other cruise lines have) and they just added a new level (again with 'voyages' as the criteria). If you are taking 15 day cruises, good for you and congratulations... but let's not penalize those who have gained platinum and elite status by following the rules that Princess has put into place for years. They are NOT going to change their policy... why pull our hair out over it?

I often sail single, so that means I have to pay a supplement – and since I pick balcony cabins, that supplement is usually 200% of the per person double occupancy fare. Being as I pay twice as much as most other people, I think I should get double the number of cruises…so I should be at about 24 by now and firmly entrenched in Elite Status. Right? goboy Posted April 13, 2004 #16 Share Posted April 13, 2004 Too much emphasis is put on "status"- "class"- amd "category". No matter how Princess does it, not everyone will be satisfied. Reminds me of a guy I know whose life revolves around "status". If he smiled, his face would break- If he kicked back and had one with the boys, he would choke to death- and if he spoke a kind word to his wife, she would faint- but he enjoys "status and style". When I go up the boarding ramp of any cruise ship, I leave such matters behind. My wife and I look at each other and say"we're finally here", then we begin having a weeks worth of "good times". Now, that's status! goboy Azure Sea-91 Magesty of the Seas-92 Sov. of the Seas-94,00,01,02 Grand-00,01 Rhapsody -99 Royal Magesty-97 Zaandam-

Toto2Kansas Posted April 14, 2004 #18 Share Posted April 14, 2004 I can see both sides of this topic, but as someone that has sailed up to 25 days with Princess on one cruise in the past and that still only counted as one sailing. No, I don't think it is right, sorry, just my opinion. But you watch, we will all work our duffs off to gain ellite status and then they will change it again and say it isn't working out so they are removing it. OMG I am in a really icky mood tonight, must be time to hit the sack here. lol Wait, not an icky mood, it must be the PCD setting in. Sandy R Posted April 14, 2004 #19 Share Posted April 14, 2004 Great thread. Amused by all the posts. Here's one for you... We've sailed with Princess since 1975 and we're now at 26 Princess cruises. We sailed with Princess as Platinum for several years, never contemplating they would institute another level. Yes we're now Elite and by the way, on our March 13 Diamond inaugural, we enjoyed the black cruise cards, the 10% off in the shops, the free liquor set up in the cabin. Didn't use the free dry cleaning but will definitely use it on our next cruise. Also really enjoyed the lunch with the Captain, along with about 40 other passengers and really, really enjoyed the tour of the bride with those same 40 passengers. So, all of you will be Elite after your 15th cruise... right? Well, we didn't become Elite until our 26th cruise! Should we get something extra because of the wait? Obviously not but all the talk about days vs cruises, etc... it's a thought! Happy sailing... Sandy
