You'll start off with a credit for the entire amount at the beginning of the cruise and the "hotel charge" will accrue daily. So, in effect, it's a wash by the end of the cruise.

Our experience exactly. I printed out my documents beforehand showing the prepaid gratuities, just in case, but no problems whatsoever!
