margaritaville momma Posted June 26, 2015 #1 Share Posted June 26, 2015 How often does Carnival have to skip Belize because of weather? My son desperately wants to do the ruins and I am reading bits a pieces that sometimes it is skipped port or delayed.
OCruisers Posted June 27, 2015 #2 Share Posted June 27, 2015 We've made it all four times. :) Note: All of ours have been in the Jan/Feb time frame. LuLu
cmapray Posted June 27, 2015 #3 Share Posted June 27, 2015 They will only skip it if its dangerous. You will get a refund on your port taxes and likely your ruins price if you book it in advanced but definitely ask before you book. Its happened to me with Jamaica and grand caymen (different years, both in the winter) but never Belize. Ive been to belize 4 to 6 times.
margaritaville momma Posted June 27, 2015 Author #4 Share Posted June 27, 2015 We've been to Belize twice before and never had a problem but my son is worried so I thought I would ask and show him it will probably be ok. ;) Thank you all for your answers. We are booking the ruins through Carnival so I would hope to get a refund if cancelled.
scott4020 Posted June 29, 2015 #5 Share Posted June 29, 2015 We skipped it last November. I was pretty disappointed. But no choice if the weather is bad.
birdy Posted July 2, 2015 #6 Share Posted July 2, 2015 Missed Belize two out of three times. Hoping this Feb is a go.
Rare crewsweeper Posted July 2, 2015 #7 Share Posted July 2, 2015 OP, You are traveling in the peak of hurricane season. You and your family should be prepared to have some, if not all, ports changed or missed. No one can tell when or where a tropical storm or a hurricane will appear and go. Seeing the ruins is a nice thing to do, but it's not the end of the world (that happened in 2012:D:rolleyes:). go ahead and make your plans for all your ports, and then wait and see. You could know if a storm coming across the Atlantic is possibly heading in the general direction of any Western Caribbean ports about a week in advance. But you may not know if the ship's itinerary is getting changed until after you are on board.
