twins mom Posted June 30, 2015 #1 Share Posted June 30, 2015 We are docking back in Rome on the Allure around 7 AM at the end of July and our flight from FCO is at 3:30. Does anyone have any suggestions of a short trip that would break up just waiting at the airport for the day? We will have spent 5 days in Rome before embarking the cruise but am not sure of other options. Thanks for any ideas.
Chloe1500 Posted June 30, 2015 #2 Share Posted June 30, 2015 (edited) It's a bit of a logistics problem because the ship docks in the port of Civitavecchia which is about an hour or so drive from central Rome. Fiumicino airport is back towards the coast about 45 minutes in a fast cab in decent traffic. And I assume you will have your luggage. So the only way to accomplish that would be a private driver into Rome and then, to the airport, and that would be relatively expensive for just two or three hours in Rome. With five days in Rome precruise, I'd suggest spending the morning of disembarkation on the ship as long as possible, then arrange a private transfer to the airport. Have a long lunch there and do a little shopping, etc. until time to board. Edited June 30, 2015 by Chloe1500
Rare cruisemom42 Posted June 30, 2015 #3 Share Posted June 30, 2015 If you'll have a private vehicle, then Ostia Antica is a wonderful site that is very close to Fiumicino airport. You could certainly spend a few hours there and the site has a nice (relatively speaking) cafeteria restaurant on site where you can have lunch as well.
