oncruisecontrol Posted July 18, 2015 #2 Share Posted July 18, 2015 Where do you want to go? What do you want to see or do? Both Curacao and Aruba have shops, dining, and casinos within walking distance of where the ship docks if you are relatively fit. Curacao being the better of the two ports for walking/sightseeing from the dock on foot. Of particular interest in Curacao is the Queen Emma Pontoon Bridge. It is a beautiful photo spot, and if you happen to be on the bridge when it opens for harbor traffic....kudos. What a unique experience and great picture-taking opportunity. I have been to both of these ports twice and there are many people peddling tours once you disembark the ship. Research before you leave home and explore on foot from the port as we do. Also, we have had positive experiences utilizing taxis that line up at the ports in both Aruba and Curacao. Do your homework, and familiarize yourself with the islands and possible destinations. There is much to see. With the internet and CruiseCritic you can cross-reference what gets good reviews and what doesn't. Regarding LaRomana, I have no info. When we were there, we got off the ship to set foot on terra firma just to say we were there. Bottom line is if you want to do a tour that is not thru the cruise line, do the online research and cross-reference everything you find. Don't be clueless on the ground once you get there. csunshine860 Posted July 19, 2015 Author #3 Share Posted July 19, 2015 We were there in 2002 and wondered as then we took ship excursion and was not too happy. Would like to see the island. As for L Romana I was there in 2005 with MSC......not much then to offer. We are into more of the history and culture of ports. Research has always been top priority for me. Many thanks. Familycruisers20 Posted July 19, 2015 #4 Share Posted July 19, 2015 I am on the same itinerary on the Breeze in Dec. For La Romana I think we are going to try the Seavis Tours Carnival Ship special tour. Not sure about others.
cb at sea Posted July 20, 2015 #5 Share Posted July 20, 2015 There will be plenty of things to do/book once in port. But..it's best to learn something about where you're going, so you'll KNOW what you want to do....many things require NO excursion or guide at all! Rare Keith1010 Posted July 20, 2015 #6 Share Posted July 20, 2015 I would book it in advance for Aruba but there will be a few tours available for booking if you wait. Keith
