I am going on the Breakaway in September. This is my first cruise and these threads have been so helpful but I have one question. Can you bring your own mobile hotspot? Would you get wireless internet this way?

That's a maybe and certainly would be frowned upon. Have never heard of anyone who has been successful, but perhaps you'll be the first.

My son tried on two different cruise lines and could never get online. He's really cheap!

Sure, you can bring it...it will be completely useless. Your mobile hotspot isn't pulling wireless internet out of thin air - the signal is coming from your cell provider's towers. There are no towers in the middle of the ocean. The only signal you can get is from Cellular@Sea tower on the ship, which I don't think even allows for mobile data.

Your internet plan can be shared but only one device can be used at a time. I used my ipad and niece used her laptop. A over tge ship. Or you can go to the internet cafe.

I purchased an unlimited plan on the Jewel first week it was offered. Loved it.

This is not entirely true - or at least wasn't true on all ships as of last summer. My brother-in-law and I shared a plan and were both online at the same time on Breakaway. We both were hitting up against the same MB of course. Perhaps it's different with an unlimited plan?
