takeadip Posted August 7, 2015 #1 Share Posted August 7, 2015 Hello All: Lately there seems to be a lot of chatter about the fireworks ending. Is it true that NCL is considering showing a "previously recorded" fireworks display on a large projection screen close to the adult only pool area? I think this would allow people the thrill of seeing fireworks while not having to deal with all the "live" excitement. For those folks that cant make it to the pool area for the showing NCL will let you view the fireworks on your stateroom television for a pay per view small additional fee added to your shipboard account. Any other suggestions out there???

cruise9876kend Posted August 7, 2015 #4 Share Posted August 7, 2015 I for one wouldn't wanna pay to watch a pre recorded firework display or watch it on a screen as I think it would take the fun out of it maybe they could replace it with a deck themed party for which ever Caribbean/Europe extra they are sailing in including local foods maybe ??? Freckle53 Posted August 7, 2015 #7 Share Posted August 7, 2015 I liked the suggestion I read somewhere to substitute a laser show. Seems as if it would go good with the 80's party theme too. No risk of fire/accidents and with today's technology, it seems as if it should be an easy thing to pull off.

What if one of those dangerous high powered lasers malfunctions and hits someone in the eye and blinds them! Don't forget about interfering with aircraft flying overhead. I don't want a plane to crash into the ship!

takeadip Posted August 7, 2015 Author #11 Share Posted August 7, 2015 yankee- wouldnt you consider paying for it if it was only like 2 bucks a day..per cabin...seems reasonable... sizzle..very true...lasers could be dangerous..ill send an email to corporate...good thing the fireworks were not confused with flareguns...which is the nautical launguage for SOS cry for help...NCL must have to report when the fireworks will be taking place to avoid confusion.. good stuff...:)

Disney has been doing fireworks on all of their boats without issue for more than 10 years. If NCL wanted to do this, they could. I just think it is another cost cutting measure. rydan Posted August 8, 2015 #17 Share Posted August 8, 2015 Disney has been doing fireworks on all of their boats without issue for more than 10 years. If NCL wanted to do this, they could. I just think it is another cost cutting measure. SO WRONG. First off, KS wanted the fireworks. To compete with Disney. What you don't know is that KS, and a few other VP's from NCL paid enormous amounts of money to attend the "DISNEY institute" to learn the Disney way of making guests happy. Yes, it exists and many corporations do this. KS, tried and failed flat out with the fireworks. Guest surveys proved that. It us a huge expense. And Disney makes all there fireworks at the WDW resort. NCL, outsourced. I'm glad FDR got rid of them, they sucked that's my personal opinion. And the overwhelming majority think so too. Disney is unique for three reasons; 1) they have the highest per diem of all mainstream lines 2) you get the world famous Disney service. 3) you get the experience no one else can deliver. It was not a cut back, it was an elimination of an ill conceived, poorly executed copy of something way out of there expertise.
buzzygirl1 Posted August 8, 2015 #18 Share Posted August 8, 2015 Our little town of about 4000 just had an annual fireworks show sponsored by one of the local fraternal organizations, it lasted a whole 1 hour long, ( not just a few minutes as some ) it was amazing and free for anyone to view ! they also have lighted lanterns which people can donate money to have put up in addition which is in honor of a deceased loved one or friend, how nice is that, since show is free, any money donated goes to the fraternal organization . we never would pay an extra fee to see fireworks on a ship . Our own here is MUCH better. won't miss having no fireworks on Breakaway
missintuitive Posted August 8, 2015 #19 Share Posted August 8, 2015 (edited) A huge contribution to Disney's per dime being hgh is the fact that (1) Disney does not have a casino so that revenue has to be made up in the fare and (2)Disney doesn't rely heavily on the sale of alcohol. It is the only major cruise line that allows you to bring alcohol onboard (the only limit is the size of your carry on...no coolers). I highly doubt that NCL will lower the price of the Gw or BE to reflect the elimination of the fire works. It will go to the bottom line on the cruise which is why I don't understand why the ppl who don't like fireworks are so vocal. You will not get any additional benefit from the cruise line cutting them. If I were to make a list of all the things that changed since I reserved my H4 in March is would be at least 10 items long. To me it's not the individual cuts but the cumulative effect of me overall not getting what I paid for. Don't forget about interfering with aircraft flying overhead. I don't want a plane to crash into the ship! Wow, just wow! That's digging into the depths of fear. I've seen a laser show on board a ship, I think it was Carnival Dream. It was great with most beams horizontal and with the smoke haze too. Not sure if they still do it. As far as injury, that can happen just walking across a wet deck.;)
