Excursions

Recommended Posts

Going on Thomson Island Escape Tapas & Tangines is it easy to do own excursions or best to book?

Some ports are easy 'walk off' straight into town and some places are very easy and cheap to DiY. By using public transport, taxis, Hoho's and local tour companies many of which can be picked up dockside, you can often have a great day at a fraction of the cost of ship's excursions. another advantage is that you can stay for a shorter or longer time looking around to suit yourselves rather than be locked into the group's timetable and pace.

But some ports are a bit distant from attractions like Livorno from Florence and if you especially wanted to go to there you may think it's more convenient to go with the ship's trip and have the benefit of a guide explaining what you are looking at too.

It all depends on where you are going and what you would most like to do when you get there. I would suggest you do a bit of research (see the port guides under the Destinations section on this site) and decide what kind of things you think you want to do, then ask on here to see what folk recommend and whether doing a trip or a DiY approach would be better - and then they will no doubt give you some advice on how best to go about it.

Let us know what your ports of call are and I'm sure there will be some help forthcoming. :)
