National Geographic Traveler Princess Story

In the most recent issue of National Geographic Traveler magazine, there is a

story about a couple who lost their luggage disembarking in Long Beach, CA.

The loss was due to the fact that Princess handlers dropped their luggage into the ocean next to the ship. Princess promised to retrieve the luggage but the couple never got it back. Once more, Princess did nothing but refer them to an insurance company that reimbursed the husband and wife each $500.00. for a total of only $1000.00. They said their loss was $5000.00. The author of the article indicated that they should not have had that much property in their luggage, which I thought was absurd if people have good dress clothes etc.

I can't believe Princess would be so callous over an accident caused by their own employees. Have you read this story? What do you think?

#1 - The luggage handlers were probably not employed by Princess. The handlers are usually independent contractors.

#2 - I think $2,500 a piece is more on the money, especially if they packed other things like electronics, toiletries and other items. Should Princess cover it? I don't know that answer. Even if the traveler had insurance, it may not cover everything.

#3 - This "accident" happens more often than you think.
