Diamond Princess - Mini Suite Question?

Would any of the mini suites on this ship be considered better than the others?

 

Which ones are the best overall?

The only real choices in mini-suites are covered vs. open balconies. IF that makes a difference to you the open balconies are on the Dolphin deck, the few covered are on the Emerald, aft. But most people find that they like the open balconies once they try them. The two AE's, far aft on Emerald have larger, extended balconies, but are usually snapped up quickly when bookings open.

Other than that, the difference is just location, either for stability or access to other venues.

We're doing Alaska inside passeage southbound, maybe being able to sit in the sun is a plus?

In that case, I would suggest take a port side, Dolphin deck. Yes, the sun (when its out) will be nice and certainly not too hot. Or that one extended AE if you can get it.
