dulcimergirl Posted September 1, 2015 #26 Share Posted September 1, 2015 (edited) I booked our next cruise for next October. I've never booked that far in advance. My final payment is due next August. I'm thinking of spreading my payments out till then and just make small monthly payments. Does anyone else do that? I do this every payday. I just pay 25 or 50 or what ever won't hurt my pocketbook, and its done by final payment time. Then I keep doing it, pulling it out in cash and stashing it in my passport, to use ashore and in the casino and tips. Works fine for me. Learned this lesson after charging my first cruise and it took forever to pay it off. lol Edited September 1, 2015 by dulcimergirl
TerReuv Posted September 1, 2015 #27 Share Posted September 1, 2015 We also pay our cruise off that way. It makes it easier. Also, this time I took advantage of purchasing Carnival gift cards every time I was going to make a payment. I would purchase them through CitiDeals and save 10% on the card so I was only paying $90 for $100 gift cards and then applying the gift card to my balance due. Saved enough to pre-pay tips and have some cards for our S&S card.
CCLCruiser4321 Posted September 1, 2015 #28 Share Posted September 1, 2015 We just started doing that we put money in a vacation account anyway so we booked 6 trips from now to January 2017 and just pay on them I guess I could invest it until the money is due but since I own carnival stock I guess it's helping anyway lol

CutestLittleEvil Posted September 1, 2015 #30 Share Posted September 1, 2015 I have cancelled a cruise before final payment before. It took a whopping 48hours before the money was refunded. I don't think there is a risk to booking far in advance.
carolinaviking71208 Posted September 1, 2015 #31 Share Posted September 1, 2015 I booked my B2B (11/28/15) back in June of 2014. I just made payments as I saw fit. Ended up paid off by December. Felt nice to have it paid off well in advance.
kelkel2 Posted September 1, 2015 #32 Share Posted September 1, 2015 My only suggestions are to pay attention to what you are doing. You have an option to pay in full or pay a different amount. I have read here that several people have accidently hit the pay in full. Carnival was nice about reversing the charges. Also be sure you make that final payment deadline. Several posts also on here about canceled cruises. People think the final payment will be made automatically. I am not saying it doesn't happen with some really good PVP. But there have been a fair amount of people complaining that their cruise was cancelled for non payment. Bottom line be responsible for your own financial obligations. Oh good lord I've done this, and I did it on a Saturday too! It took 7 business days to reverse!!!! Thankfully I had the money in my bank account to cover it, and I was fine, but that's not how I planned on spending the money in my account. Yes be very very careful! Always click the button that says "other amount"
cruising maniac Posted September 1, 2015 #33 Share Posted September 1, 2015 Usually I have my TA charge 100 or 150 or whatever I want every week or 2 weeks until paid in full. This time I bought $2000 worth of gift cards through AARP and called my TA every few weeks to have her post 4 or 5 cards to the balance. I saved 10% by using the gift cards and received another 10% in OBC from the TA. :) She told me that one of the agents in her office had a customer pay off a cruise with 117 gift cards valued at $25 or $50 each. Took 5 hours to read them all off and call them to Carnival. BTW- I never wait on hold while she calls the payment in- it is done online. I always receive confirmation with an hour. We also now ask the adult kids for Carnival gift cards instead of "stuff" for birthdays,Christmas,Mother's Day,Father's Day,etc. works for us.
