Cruising out of Vancouver. Getting there is the issue. Strange as it seems we have never flown connecting flights anywhere. Considering it in this case because of travel times, at least going to Vancouver. If you fly say Alaska Air from Newark,NJ with a connection in Seattle to Vancouver does your luggage get checked thru or do you need to claim it and then go thru Canadian customs before boarding to Vancouver? Could leave Newark at 840am, land Seattle 11am, connection at 2pm, arrive Vancouver 3pm. Hotel by 5pm.

 

Nonstops leave Newark 6pm, Air Canada, arrive Vancouver 930pm. Hotel by 11pm.

We flew out of Newark on United. I booked early and had a non-stop to Vancouver which was great. A few months after I booked they changed it. We ended up flying out of Newark at 6:00AM landed in Chicago, changed planes and arrived in Vancouver around 11:30am their time. Luggage was dropped at Newark and we didn't see it until Vancouver.

Your luggage will be transferred from flight to flight as they are on the same airline. When we have flown from the US to YVR we have cleared customs and immigration at YVR.

Your luggage will be available for pickup after exiting customs at Vancouver's airport.

 

Basically your baggage tags will identify the final destination airport.

When you check in at Newark, just check your bags through to Vancouver and immediately examine your luggage claim stubs to be sure they show YVR as the final destination.

 

The flight in the small plane from Seattle to Vancouver is very scenic and the plane flies low.

It is like getting an extra sightseeing excursion.

 

But a non-stop direct flight always gives the best chance that your checked bags will arrive on the same flight with you.

That matters if you are flying in on the day of the cruise.

 

However, when you fly in at least a day early, it really doesn't matter.

If the checked bags don't make the transfer for whatever reason, they come in on a later flight and are delivered directly to you at your hotel.

 

Just notify the front desk that you are expecting them, and they will accept them and lock them up for you, so you don't need to wait around the hotel for them but can go off and do whatever you want.
