Ecstasy rides out H. Rita (Pics)
:o Okay, I'm sorry. I do believe, I do believe.

Part of my mental rejection of those pictures (which I believe now, by the way) comes from the many times I've heard that the cruise lines possess state of the art weather tracking systems that keep them from sailing their hugely invested ships into rough seas risking damage or even worse, loss of life. They did have plenty of notice that Rita was coming to call and I would have thought they would have retreated before the seas were that high.

Another part is we've all stood beside these ships and seen how massive they are and then seeing seas this high are hard to grasp.

Also I'm on the Internet or cable news all of the time and I haven't seen these pics anywhere else. I would have thought a FOX/CNN/MSNBC would have shown these pics as they are astonishing.

So, please accept my apology and contact the cable news networks and sell those pics!
I haven't seen any sort of pics after/during a storm of ships that are sent out to sea to avoid storms... must not be that breaking of news considering all the other news going on these days... to see a ship bobbing around in the ocean... maybe Entertainment Tonight or Inside Edition? They usually show things like that (the college cruise from earlier in the year for example)....

I don't think that the ship sailed right into the hurricane, but they are sent out to sea so they are not in port (where more damage can be caused)... and this was a massive storm, which I am sure caused high waves for quite a while... without real details on where the ship was and where it was heading, all we can do is guess. The pics look real, and I'm not sure why anyone would go through the trouble of photoshopping SO many pictures... when they could have just copied that old Truimph pic that is floating around somewhere :D LOL... I have no doubt that another ship or the Coast Guard escort took the pics... it would be interesting to find out how the OP got them though... guess he doesn't want to tell us :(

Fakes. The seas don't even look high enough for the bow to go that low. What lunatic would put another ship that close, anyway? And they are shot from different angles, so that would mean that another CRUISE SHIP was maneuvering around like that, just to take pictures? Even if it was a CG vessel I would think that we would have seen these shots on the news (I mean, come on).

This reminds me of the picture of the Norwegian Dawn hitting the 75 foot wave that was posted here a few months ago. That was certainly coincidental- someone was flying a helicopter right next to the Dawn AND taking a picture at the exact second the wave hit! And of course no news channels saw it fit to run...

Maybe I'm wrong, but these look like fakes to me. The one taken broadside looks like she's sinking.

I'll tell you what.....Get in touch with the AV Mgr on board the Sensation and ask him if he 'did' take those photographs. In fact get the news networks to get in touch with him since he should get all credit for taking them and hopefully make some $$$ for his effort. I only received them via e-mail and that too from one of CCL ships and thought sharing it with the board would be great.

I guess you didn't read my earlier post saying that these were not fake and in fact taken by the Sensation's AV Manager while the Sensation was alongside the Ecstasy,

I did read it. But you know how it is on the internet! Things take on a life of their own! How did you get the pictures from the AV mgr on the Sensation and why are you suggesting I tell him where to sell the pictures? Why don't you tell him since you are obviously in touch with him?

I don't mean to be flip or just casually doubtful. I really am skeptical and IMHO I think they are fake. But I have been wrong before, in fact wrong several times today, so I have a 50% chance of being wrong on this, too!

No problem at all....received an e-mail with pic attached from a friend on one of the CCL ships. Only later found out that it was actually taken from the Sensation and not as I first guessed...

I don't know the AV Manager and didn't receive it from him but give me a little time and I'll probably even find out his name. I would never post anything onto the net unless I am absolutely sure that it can be verified and true.

Thanks Jolly! I have no reason to think they are not authentic... seen alot of fake things on the internet, and this does not ring true of fake to me... thanks for sharing them.

Did you see the "Dawn" picture from last spring? I thought it was fake for SURE. It just seemed so improbable that a camera was right there.

Oh well. Funny that these were never on the news.

Not trying to be funny, but why would these pictures be newsworthy??? Seriously, I guess I just don't see why they would be... there is enough out there to report right now and I don't see why anyone other than the news "magazine" shows I listed above would want them... ships hit large waves all the time, certainly not what I would consider something for the 6 o'clock news...

Have you seen anything on the news of late besides broken levees, flattened houses and burning buses? No one is interested in a bobbing ship at sea with everything else going on. Now if it had sunk........

Unbelievable!!! We were on the Hurricane Emily detoured ELation 7-17 cruise, and on Monday the ship was really rocking!! Winds were 50 mph and lots of people and crew were sick. Decks were closed and the curtains in the Mikado Lounge were swinging big time! I could only imagine what our ship looked like and I am sure it was not nearly as dramatic as those pics.
Perhaps the owner of the pictures is reading this thread. The number of photos has decreased and there aren't duplicates.
Where do you people come from.....??? The pictures had been saved from MY e-mail account onto MY yahoo photo page. It was brought to my attention by an earlier post that there was duplication. So....hey, I corrected it. What's so fishy about that?? There should be 17 pics in total.
By the way, information just received........the AV Manager's name is Tomislav Lebaric (I hope I've got the spelling right). One should thank him for taking these pics. I am not the owner of these pics. I am only sharing it with this board.

I'm sure there will be many reviews shortly (after everyone recovers) but I'm just back from a 7 day Glory cruise where we sailed right through the middle of Tropical Storm Rita as she moved east to west through the Caribbean toward the Gulf. I still have no idea why our captain opted to take this route, but it was pure hell the night and morning of Sept 18/19.

I've got a complete review coming, but after hours of watching Channel 21 (the realtime Shipboard Weather Instrument readings) during the worst part of the storm, I learned exactly what Beaufort Wind Scale Force 10 means ...

Jolly, it's definitely a conspiracy theory!!!! Surely you personally went through alot of trouble just to trick the cruise critic folks... surely you have nothing better to do with your time

Don't worry about it... Thanks again for the pics and also for the source!!!
LOL, yes you are probably right---most of them ARE crazy to do what they do. And they not only enjoy their jobs, they LOVE them. Thank God for the Coast Guard in a water emergency.
Hey, wait a minute . . . my son's not crazy . . . he spent 18 months on a USCG Cutter out of Boston before he went to flight school three years ago! :D And I can assure you . . . he and probably every other member of the crew, filled a "b" bag or two in really bad weather. Now he flies in that kind of weather. You gotta love 'um (though I held my breath everytime I saw an HH65 Dolphin in New Orleans) and yes, he LOVES what he does. We should all be proud of the men and women in the Coast Guard and all our sons and daughters in the military. :)

Okay, I just got the same ones from someone who works on Elation. He fwded them to me from a member of the cruise staff. They were entitled "Ecstacy Pictures." Actually they were called "Ecstacy PITCHERS," but we can let that slide...
