ilovhywd Posted September 24, 2015 #1 Share Posted September 24, 2015 Our group needs some ideas for our second visit to Rio this December. In 2012, we visited the Christ statue on Corcovado, the modern art museum at Niteroi, the famous beaches, and the Botanical Gardens. We also tried on the Carnival costumes, rode the cable car to Sugarloaf, and saw the wonderful views of Rio from up above. We have a car and driver for the day in Rio and would love to have some suggestions of what to see on this return trip. We already heard about the port renewal project, but we would like to see some other areas as well. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! VidaNaPraia Posted September 25, 2015 #2 Share Posted September 25, 2015 Have you explored the historic downtown? Had a coffee and pastry at Confeitaria Colombo? Seen the Seleron stairs? Walked around up in Santa Teresa and gone to the museum? Been to the excellent ethnographic museum in Quinta de Boa Vista? Visited the Feira Nordestino? Been to the Vista Chinesa (or any of the other vista points) in Tijuca? Watched groups of monkeys, seen the waterfall, the koi pond, in Tijuca? Ridden the ferry over to Niteroi? Been to the beaches over there, like Itacoatiara? Or lesser known beaches in Rio like Joa or Prainha? Gone to the Marependi wetlands? Walked around the Lagoa? Gone to the races at the Jockey Club? Lots more.....
homeinboca Posted September 28, 2015 #3 Share Posted September 28, 2015 OP, may I ask where you found your car and driver for the day? Do you have recommendations for a private guides and drivers in Rio? Thanks
ilovhywd Posted September 29, 2015 Author #4 Share Posted September 29, 2015 Several months ago, we were able to hook up with another couple on the Roll Call for our specific cruise (Oceania Marina 11/28/15) who had already hired the same driver/guide that they used on a previous visit. The driver/guide we used in 2012 was already booked for the date we requested. You can find recommendations by looking back on this South America thread that we are on now. Also, try Trip Advisor or do a Google search for tour guides in Rio. Good luck! P.S. to Vida - Thanks for the suggestions!
Rare Keith1010 Posted September 29, 2015 #5 Share Posted September 29, 2015 I too would go to the Historical Downtown Area. My wife and I didn't do that until our third time there and we enjoyed visiting this area and spent a few hours there. Keith
