Diamond - NZ - November

We are travelling on the Diamond, Australia and New Zealand departing 22 October.

 

Ports in New Zealand are:

 

Dunedin (Port Chalmers)

Akaroa

Picton

Wellington

 

Can anyone please advise if Princess usually offer a shuttle bus service into the City areas for these ports.

Hi from Wellington. yEs there should be a shuttle bus and it takes you right into the centre of town where the shops are. I haven't been on Princess but I have seen the buses year in and out. Have a great trip.

Akaroa is a small settlement an hour or so from Christchurch. The tenders drop you at the town but you would probably have to do an excursion (private or Princess) to get to Christchurch. Akaroa is very pretty though.

There's a shuttle between Port Chalmers and Dunedin - takes about 20 mins drive from memory. Also a shuttle into Wellington.

In Wellington it is not too far if you want to walk for yourself and you get a nicer introduction to the city as you walk up to it.

 

Picton is free but be warned that it is a small country town. There will be more passengers on your ship than live in Picton. The best part is coming in to the port in the early morning. The sounds are quite beautiful with an early morning mist.

 

Downtown Dunedin is about 20 minutes away from the Port of Otago. There is a nice little town at the port with a Cathedral that looks worth visiting. There is a cost for the bus or you can catch a train (from memory).

Many thanks for your replies..... for a change I will go to the Port Lectures and learn a little more before we arrive.

 

I am sure that there will be taxis and local tours available when we arrive
