Euros in Kusadasi?

Recommended Posts

Those businesses which attract tourists will generally accept euros. Shops, stalls, cafes, bars etc near the port or sights, touristy shops, taxi drivers near the port. But ask first.

Much less likely in places geared to the needs of locals.

Not accepted on public transport.

Not accepted in government-run places, including Ephesus.

Most established businesses accept Visa & MasterCard, which can also be used for admission at Ephesus.

If Kusadasi is your only Turkish port, you can get by with euros & plastic.

If you have other ports-of-call in Turkey it's worth getting some TL, just-in-case and also to get better value.

That's been my experience, others may have found differently. ;)

From my experience in Turkey (not Kusadasi), I agree with the previous poster.

Plastic is accepted at government-run sites.

It's important to note that almost EVERYTHING is negotiable in Turkey, so having TL will give you a little more negotiating leverage. It wouldn't hurt to pick up some TL prior to getting to this port so you can take advantage of some deals.

Also, for larger purchases--most merchants take plastic. But smaller purchases--no way.

We were there just over a week ago and found this to be an extememly touristy town centre and any price markings were in Euros, although some vendors would give better value in Lira. It was also necessary to walk back along a meandering route through the shops at the port to get onto the ship which was very annoying as it made a very short distance into a long walk.

We were in port from early morning to late night, so had time to walk a distance uphill out of the town centre in the afternoon/evening which was very pleasant and that was not a touristy area.
