bakery Posted September 28, 2005 #1 Share Posted September 28, 2005 All the talk about Delta has me a little spooked. I'm about to book air for our March cruise, and am likely to go with either United or US Airways. Anything I should know about the fiscal health of either of those companies before I book? MRF777 Posted September 28, 2005 #2 Share Posted September 28, 2005 I would pick Continental or American, but US Airways and United are not going out business any time soon.
Coolmama_1 Posted September 28, 2005 #3 Share Posted September 28, 2005 AA has several flights a day to SJU and would be my first choice.
CruisinMatt Posted September 28, 2005 #4 Share Posted September 28, 2005 I don't know where you are originating from but I flew ATA this past March nonstop from Chicago Midway and it was priced very well.
TrentS Posted September 29, 2005 #5 Share Posted September 29, 2005 AA is the biggest in San Juan, we use them, but I wouldn't worry about Delta. United has been in bankruptcy for years, neither one is going anywhere soon. Pay with a credit card, buy travel insurance, and don't worry about it. DanJ Posted September 29, 2005 #6 Share Posted September 29, 2005 Independence has also just announced new non-stop daily flights from Washington Dulles to San Juan. Not sure I would trust these guys to still be in business 6 months from now, but in the short term, they might spur a bit of a seat sale amongst the other airlines as FlyI introduces some cheaper fares to the route. bakery Posted September 29, 2005 Author #7 Share Posted September 29, 2005 Thanks for all the advice. My preference is American, too, but the prices have gone up. I think maybe I'll wait a bit and see if they come down again -- it seems as if they fluctuate daily.
MRF777 Posted September 29, 2005 #8 Share Posted September 29, 2005 I would avoid Independence Air, I dont think they will be around much longer.
DanJ Posted September 29, 2005 #9 Share Posted September 29, 2005 Oh, I agree, I wasn't suggesting anyone buy a ticket on them, for next week, let alone next winter. Just saying that when an airline starts a new route like this, they usually have a short term downward affect on prices on other airlines, so maybe doing some shopping in the next week or so would be a good idea.
