Working 2 Cruise Posted November 3, 2015 #1 Share Posted November 3, 2015 Well, out of 2 cruises in 2015, I received 2 upsells! Very nice! Ocean view obstructed to balcony.... I also found out that my casino discount expires on December 17, 2016... that should allow me to book cruises well into 2018. Very happy!
moki'smommy Posted November 3, 2015 #2 Share Posted November 3, 2015 Wow! I actually lost an upgrade that was supposed to be part of my package. The promotion was an upgraded view (same cabin type), included gratuities, and one specialty dining. Because we need an HA cabin and there were no "standard" balconies available, we were required to book a large balcony. They explained that IF there had been a standard available, we could have booked that and received a complimentary upgrade to the large, but because the standard wasn't available there was "nothing that could be done." Rather a bummer to have to pay for it, but the larger balcony sounds great. Oh well, included gratuities is still a great deal.

BRANDEE Posted November 3, 2015 #8 Share Posted November 3, 2015 (edited) Well, out of 2 cruises in 2015, I received 2 upsells! Very nice! Ocean view obstructed to balcony.... I also found out that my casino discount expires on December 17, 2016... that should allow me to book cruises well into 2018. Very happy! Hi Working 2 Cruise, Regarding casino discount rates. (According to my TA and Princess Rep.) Each cruise has a specific number of casino rates available. Once they are all booked, that rate is gone for you even if your discount casino rate has not expired. Example...both my brother and I got casino rates for all 2016 cruises. He hesitated to book a January cruise and when he did the rate was gone, however his rate was still available for another cruise in Aug. 2016 Better to book and cancel, than lose the discount. My casino rates disappeared in July for two cruises and August for another, luckily I booked the three cruises right away. Good Luck and Keep Cruisin..btw never checked 2017 prices, I was told my rate was for 2016 cruises, but I think I might take a look!!! Okay..just looked up three cruises in 2017..no casino rates...oh well!! Edited November 3, 2015 by BRANDEE
Working 2 Cruise Posted November 3, 2015 Author #9 Share Posted November 3, 2015 Brandee, some people's discount expires in 2015, others in 2016. My Panama Canal cruise was booked with it with great savings. You should check the expiration date and start booking your 2017 cruises. Europe and Alaska 2017/18 will be open for booking on December 3.
BRANDEE Posted November 3, 2015 #10 Share Posted November 3, 2015 Thanks Nina, I looked up some 2017 cruises and looks like I my casino rate for 2016 cruises doesn't extend into the next year. But I will keep looking for that December date. I got fabulous rates for next year in Europe and Caribbean, so I am very happy. Because I saved so much on the northern European cruise, we are doing a land tour before and after the cruise. First time in 18 years of cruising Princess that we got this rate (we aren't big gamblers). Hope it doesn't take another 18!!! Chris

Working 2 Cruise Posted November 3, 2015 Author #12 Share Posted November 3, 2015 Chris, apparently, for now, you can't see the discount online. You have to call either your TA or Princess.... Try it, you never know! I did get a fantastic deal on my PC cruise! I'm hoping to book a few in the next few months... fingers crossed!

Working 2 Cruise Posted November 3, 2015 Author #14 Share Posted November 3, 2015 How do you get these casino discounts? Do you have to spend a certain amount in the casino to be eligible? Thanks Claudia It was offered to some passengers, not all. What the criteria was for Princess, we don't know. Either passengers got the offer, or they didn't. I think it's a combination of past cruising history and some gambling history. A lot of us, who did get that offer, don't gamble much. But there's no way of knowing. Nice, there's no way of applying for it, sorry. However, if you do gamble fairly heavily, you'll get some type of offers.

bigenna Posted November 3, 2015 #16 Share Posted November 3, 2015 I have read so many posts about casino discounts, but how much of a discount is it? What I mean is, what percentage off fare and is it usually cheaper than subsequent sales? Have not had the offer yet, but a girl can dream, right? Have not had the offer yet, but a girl can dream, right? It depends on the cabin category, for example on our upcoming S. America cruise, we saved 30% off the sale price of an oceanview. And also got the prepaid gratuities and specialty dinner promo that just ended. So it is quite a discount. I believe balconies and minis are 25% off but I am very happy with my OV so we didn't price them.:D

Have not had the offer yet, but a girl can dream, right? It's a lot better than regular sales! Unfortunately, if you haven't received the offer yet, odds are you won't. But, you really never know. I received the offer by email. The discount is 25% off inside cabins, 15% balconies, etc. I saved over $2,000 on my upcoming Panama Canal cruise and saved about $500 on my Alaska cruise in June. What a good deal! We have 4 people in a cabin for 4 in an obstructed view cabin next June so I was curious. But I think the 4 person balconies are already sold out. Working 2 Cruise Posted November 4, 2015 Author #24 Share Posted November 4, 2015 What a good deal! We have 4 people in a cabin for 4 in an obstructed view cabin next June so I was curious. But I think the 4 person balconies are already sold out. Even with just 3 in a cabin, it'll be good to have the balcony. Had I just upgraded us, it would have cost almost $500 for the same cabin! If all the balconies are sold out already... but you're not past final payment, so keep hoping! The same thing happened for our Alaska Cruise. The upsell offer on that one was $129 per person. It was well worth it.
SoCal Cruiser78 Posted November 4, 2015 #25 Share Posted November 4, 2015 ...Regarding casino discount rates...Better to book and cancel, than lose the discount... Just be sure to check if your deposit is refundable if you may have to cancel. I took one "casino rate" cruise last year that had a non-refundable deposit, so I purchased Princess insurance to get the "cancel for any reason" benefit just in case.
