tutuwahineLV Posted November 10, 2015 #1 Share Posted November 10, 2015 Hi y'all. Looking for some 'local' expertise again. We may be changing our 2017 cruise from one that departs Sydney to one that departs Brisbane instead. Anyone have any suggestions on a great pre trip hotel, that would have easy access to the cruise terminal. I have no clue about Brisbane, I don't even know yet where the ship docks...:o and am off to do some research. In the meantime I truly appreciate any information you can provide. TIA TuTu
emmaasher Posted November 13, 2015 #2 Share Posted November 13, 2015 Depending on the size of your ship you will be berthed at either Hamilton wharf or closer to mouth of the brisbane river. Most ships dock at the first one. If you are flying in to brisbane the airport is only about 10 mins max from the cruise ship dock. I recommend staying at one of the many hotels in the city. You can get to the cbd either by taxi or more cheaply by catching the airtrain. There is a train line which runs directly from the airport into the city. You can buy tickets at a self service kiosk at the platform. Depending on how long you will be in brisbane it may be convenient to buy a travel card from a newsagent with credit on it so you can just tap on and off all the public transportation in brisbane. Southbank in the cbd is a must see there are lots of restaurants a walkway along the river a obversation wheel etc. A ferry ride up and down the river is a good way to spend part of a day. If you are wanting a good view of brisbane a trip to mt cootha is worth a visit. At the bottom is a botanical garden and a planetarium up at the summi is a lookout point with a cafe. If you a an active person there are some really nice walks on the mountain. If you are interested in seeing some aussie wildlife there is also lone pine koala sanctuary a small zoo with native animals. You can get to both places on a bus from the city. You can go on the transinfo website to plan your journey. Hope you have a great time.
