Silverspringcruiser Posted November 13, 2015 #51 Share Posted November 13, 2015 Why is everybody making this difficult? What you need to get back on ship is the same as what you'll need to get off the ship.
LTS1960 Posted November 14, 2015 #52 Share Posted November 14, 2015 (edited) Why is everybody making this difficult? What you need to get back on ship is the same as what you'll need to get off the ship. This is not true. You only need your S&S card to get off the ship but at some ports you need a photo ID to get back into the sometimes secure port area. The previous posts have discussed this ad nauseam! But isn't it true that if the port requires photo ID that Carnival is going to make sure you have it when you leave?
DebJ14 Posted November 14, 2015 #54 Share Posted November 14, 2015 Why does such an easy question turn into convoluted answers that are totally untrue. When getting off the ship in ports you run your S&S card through the scanner that lets the ship know you are in port for the day. When you return to the ship you again scan your card which pulls up your photo ID (that was taken at embarkation) to ensure you are who you are. No other ID is required. That being said...some excursion operators require photo ID (such as a driver's license) once you are at the port. You may also need photo ID at some stores if you are using a credit card. Ports do not require passports since the ship's manifest lists all of the passengers and their appropriate IDs if required by the port you are visiting. And the ships do not require you to turn over your passport to them (at least in the western hemisphere). We cruised this year to both Mexico and Bermuda. We could not get past Mexican security to get back to the ship in Cozumel without showing both the cruise card and photo ID. Same thing in Bermuda where the guards would not let you on the pier without showing both photo ID and the cruise card. And, they actually compared the names on both and checked our faces against the photos.
LTS1960 Posted November 14, 2015 #55 Share Posted November 14, 2015 But isn't it true that if the port requires photo ID that Carnival is going to make sure you have it when you leave? No....Carnival does not check to see if you have your photo ID with you. They only care about scanning your S&S card. They do tell people beforehand to make sure they carry photo ID but they don't check lol! They mention it in the fun times and will mention it in the announcements but that's it. It's up to you to actually remember to take a photo ID with you. Some of the previous posters have mentioned people having to run back on board to get someone else's ID.
