TheMastodon Posted November 20, 2015 #1 Share Posted November 20, 2015 We will be in San Juan a few days before getting on our ship... Does anyone have any local tour companies they recommend for a bioluminescent tour? Any insight would be great. Cheers
hutt1 Posted November 24, 2015 #2 Share Posted November 24, 2015 We took a kayak tour. I don't know the company the ship used, but it was cool to watch the trail of light coming off our paddles as we got closer to the lagoon. This was one of the best tours we have taken, purely because of the amazing light display in the bay. The only downside is that it is a bit of a drive from San Juan. Kikkycat Posted November 24, 2015 #3 Share Posted November 24, 2015 We used BioIsland in February when we spent a week on the island. They were very good, and I especially appreciated not having to paddle myself in and out of the dark mangroves. The crew gave a nice tour, very informative but with humor too ("It's time to play everyone's favorite game: Whack a Kayak!")
bakersdozen12 Posted December 20, 2015 #4 Share Posted December 20, 2015 What exactly is a bio-luminescent tour? Just curious. I will be in San Juan next November.
Kikkycat Posted December 20, 2015 #5 Share Posted December 20, 2015 It's a fight-time tour of an enclosed bay/lagoon which has organisms that glow in the dark.
Podie Posted December 20, 2015 #6 Share Posted December 20, 2015 Spend the extra time and money and go to the one on Vieques. I think we used West Wind Catamarans. We left from Fajardo on the cat and had unlimited drinks, a great dinner on Vieques, and then the bay. Awesome!
RayInPR Posted December 20, 2015 #7 Share Posted December 20, 2015 There is no company here called "West Wind Catamaran". The tour that was described (from Fajardo to Vieques and back in same night) is not currently (nor for the foreseeable future) being offered, due to permitting issues. Kikkycat Posted December 20, 2015 #8 Share Posted December 20, 2015 Not sure what autocorrect did to me. It's a night time tour. Not fight time
bakersdozen12 Posted December 24, 2015 #9 Share Posted December 24, 2015 Not sure what autocorrect did to me. It's a night time tour. Not fight time I figured you meant night-time. :) And thank you for the explanation! I might actually look into this for my trip next November. Seems interesting! Kikkycat Posted December 24, 2015 #10 Share Posted December 24, 2015 You will want to check what phase the moon will be in while you're there. They do not offer tours near full moons (too much light to be able to see the glowing creatures).
