Been There, Planning That Posted December 13, 2015 #26 Share Posted December 13, 2015 More for photo I.D. but if your passport is stolen it can expedite getting a new one The photo copy has all the information on it Do many people have the passport number handy incase they need it ?? Thanks for the support. In addition to this we leave at home photocopies should one of our kids have to get the info. in an emergency. We've chosen not to have it on our laptop though I gather many do. Ruth
moniquet Posted December 13, 2015 #27 Share Posted December 13, 2015 Actually we had ours held last yr It depends on the ports you are visiting I think as we had them returned to us this year Which Ports were they? Seems very unusual. We have cruised 3 times with RCL and just treat as normal.

Been There, Planning That Posted December 14, 2015 #30 Share Posted December 14, 2015 Photocopy of a passport picture page is not photo id. Never once in many cruises has it not allowed us to re board the ship. Ruth
MrsPete Posted December 15, 2015 #31 Share Posted December 15, 2015 Never once in many cruises has it not allowed us to re board the ship. Ruth What allows you to reboard the ship is the ship's ID card.

In a genuine emergency, the Embassy people can access your passport (and more) on the computer in a matter of seconds. They can easily verify your ID because they can see your picture, and you'll be able to confirm your address, Social Security number and more. What you're doing by carrying copies is making it easier for a pickpocket to steal your identity.
Been There, Planning That Posted December 15, 2015 #33 Share Posted December 15, 2015 What allows you to reboard the ship is the ship's ID card. We've been in MANY ports where photo id is required to enter the port area. And it suffices there. This is true when walking independently. I'm sure it's not needed on a ship excursion bus. You are correct, the ship card gets you onto the actual ship. Ruth
Rare LHT28 Posted December 15, 2015 #34 Share Posted December 15, 2015 What allows you to reboard the ship is the ship's ID card. As stated there are some ports where you need to show photo i.d. before even getting into the port area
