Embarkation mid cruise

What is the process to embark at a port other than the original/embarkation port?

Our cruise originates in Rome, but my husband can not join us until our second port of call, Barcelona. Our TA has completed the necessary paperwork with HAL, but does he just show up with his passport and express docs at the gangway? Anything else we should know? Thanks!

Have you asked HAL these questions? I would think this happens frequently and HAL will have a protocol in place for the passenger to follow.

Yes HAL has procedures for this but as mentioned, recommend that you have your TA get the specifics for Barcelona - preferably in writing. It may be a good idea to send them an email via Contact Us on the website as have gotten a good response and from someone who will actually know the answer rather than whomever answers your call. Plus they will respond via email so you have it 'in writing'. Hope it is as easy as showing up with passport and boarding documents. Have seen people checking in at the front desk in similar situations.

We embarked once in Barcelona for the T-A final segment of a Grand Med cruise. The taxi took us right to a terminal where we checked our bags. We were then escorted to the Front Desk by a steward where we checked in.

The taxi was a HAL transfer, so we were put into the car by a HAL rep at the airport. That might have made the process smoother, so I suggest that your DH do the same if possible.

Like JTL says; ensure your DH has his passport + cruise paperwork indicating he's a embarking passenger on that particular voyage. Take a cab to the terminal ( Terminal De Cruceros Puerto De Barcelona, either A, B, C or D pier) and show the listed paperwork/pp to security. A staff member will escort him to the gangway where ship's security will notify the Front Office. They, the Front Office, will check him in/hand him his ship's ID and take his pic. There will be a make-up safety (muster) drill scheduled that PM which he has to attend. Enjoy your Med cruise! :)
