leenieweenie Posted December 15, 2015 #1 Share Posted December 15, 2015 Looking to know if the river tubing excursions are running normal or if they were impacted somehow by the hurricane damage? Wanting to do this for the first time in february 2016. Any info on how rough it is or how fast the rapids are would be appreciated. We are in our 60's and think this looks like fun but we really don't want to capsize or anything. Any experienced tubers out there with advice or warnings? Also did you book thru the ship or private company. If private co. Which one, please.
BoatingBabe Posted December 16, 2015 #2 Share Posted December 16, 2015 Just returned from a cruise with a stop in Dominica. Although I didn't take the tubing excursion, many in our group did. The water was not running fast, but that could change very fast with a day of rain. Everyone seemed to enjoy it, although some said they kept getting "stuck." They had watchers posted along the way in case anyone had trouble. I did the Dominica Jewel tour with Nature Island Explorers instead and was extremely pleased. It was a bit on the adventurous side, though! It's a beautiful, wild island. Enjoy!

BoopTennis Posted December 28, 2015 #4 Share Posted December 28, 2015 just got back from our cruise. We did River Tubing with AnTours on Dec 23. It was fabulous. 8 of us, another 8 or so joined us on the river and we had several guides in the water taking care of us. Tubing was fabulous everyone had a blast, 9 year old up to 60's
leenieweenie Posted December 30, 2015 Author #5 Share Posted December 30, 2015 Thanks for the info, BoopTennis. We are going to book the river tubing excursion. Sounds like no problems and a lot of fun. Hope you had a wonderful cruise!!
BoopTennis Posted December 30, 2015 #6 Share Posted December 30, 2015 have fun! take a towel, and wear water shoes, and maybe an extra dry shirt to wear over your swimsuit on way home because you will be soaking wet. you will be able to leave your stuff safely in the van while you are tubing dont take anything on the river that can't get wet. water camera only
cutiepie43 Posted January 28, 2016 #7 Share Posted January 28, 2016 We just recently (Jan 20 2016) returned from Dominica and did the river tubing with Antours. This was our 3rd time tubing in Dominica. The first two were booked through the cruise ship. I would recommend doing the tour with Antours strictly because of the distance from the ship to the river. The ship tour heads up to the Caribe indian territory which can take almost 1.5 hours each way whereas the Antour tubing ride was about 40 minutes to the river. The rivers were very similar and both were enjoyable. You get about an hour or so on the river in both excursions. There was some damage on the road off of the highway from the recent rain storm they had this past August. They just had to go a little slower driving in some spots. mrobstad Posted February 1, 2016 #8 Share Posted February 1, 2016 just got back today, and did river tubing as a NCL excursion. Everyone enjoyed it ( since theres not much else to do in Dominica) , but we were all battered and bruised. the "river" is a rockbed with water about 4 inches deep. this was combined with Trafalgar Falls, which was quite. hike. Definately not advised for those with mobility issues. quite strenous.
lynnek Posted March 3, 2016 #9 Share Posted March 3, 2016 Don't know if this answer is too late we did this earlier this month with Antours. What a good company they were. Answering emails beforehand was very quick. The river tubing was great fun there was about 14 people in our group and about 6 guides who walked or tubed alongside. They were on hand if anyone got stuck. Some of the rapids were quite quick but it wasn't dangerous. The trip ended with a complimentary rum punch. I would recommend this trip and also the company.
