Warm water fishing excursions

Hi all

I posted this in the HAL forum but I am also considering X .....

DH and I have not cruised before but I hope to talk him into one this year. My preference is someplace warm but I am flexible regarding exact destination. Mostly my goals are to be in a deck lounge with a book and a cocktail for about a week!

DH loves to fish and a chance to deep sea fish would help sweeten the deal for him. (Yes I am sharp enough to know he can't fish off the ship lol)

Have any of you taken off ship excursions to fish? And how would you rate them? DH has two replaced knees and some balance issues along with being a big guy. How are easy is it to get on and off the charter?

I would prefer booking through HAL if they are any good. Surf fishing would be a second choice.

Thanks!

Bonus question that I'm sure is fairly foolish but keep in mind my cruise experience is limited to old episodes of the Love Boat. LOL Does skeet shooting ever happen on cruises?

Great message.

The difficulty in fishing excursions is the very limited time in port. One summer I took people fishing in Sitka. The problem was they first needed to stop and get a license so no ability to get right on the boat. Then you needed to get to the good places to fish (and return later) taking more time so when all was said and done a person got maybe a couple hours of fishing for some big $$. Very similar situations in other Alaskan ports but there are lots of boats going out for those that want to fish.

Getting on and off the charter boat is fairly easy but it is often a bit of a walk to get to the boat even with transport from the ship to the charter dock. Suggestion would be to contact a couple boat operators in ports that interest you and simply put ask them what they can provide. Please tell them the ship and arrival and departure dates and TIMES.

Last, I would be booking my own trip and NOT using a ships tour. Usually the boats on the ship tours are full to the legal limit and that would be an issue for your husband in moving about and balance. Just my thoughts.

Check out http://driftwoodfishingcharters.com/ in Aruba. My DH and I chartered for a 1/2 day. They will take up to 6, but we wanted as much fishing time each as we could get! We caught two wahoo which were then brought over to their restaurant and served to us for an additional nominal fee. It was an amazing feast. I highly recommend this fishing excursion!
