Hotels In FLL - Help!

Well I'm glad you liked that area and nothing bad happened to you... But all is not as it may appear at first glance, it's not a very safe area to be out walking around in - particularly at night.

The SE 17th Street area that I recommend is safer, has some similar quality hotels that are similarly priced or even less expensive depending on your dates, and has everything you could possibly want within easy walking distance. It's also a quicker drive to the airport from the SE 17th Street hotels.

But to each his own, we all have different likes and dislikes. :)

Since you live in the area Trent and know more about it than someone who has come down for a night or two, I would certainly take your advice. We have booked a night at the Holiday Inn Express on SE 17th for our November Liberty Cruise and because of your positive review of this hotel, I feel very comfortable in the choice that we made. Thanks and please continue to give your advice and suggestions of hotels and restaurants in the south Florida area.

Hi there Trent! What do you think of the Extended Stay America on 17th? My husband found a good deal there and the reviews on tripadvisor are positive!

Extended Stay America on SE 17th Street is a very nice place with great prices... http://www.extendedstayamerica.com/hotels/fort-lauderdale-convention-center-marina.html

It's a no frills, budget hotel, but it's not very old, it's very clean and well kept. It's a great choice in a great location! It's right in the middle of everything.

I tried for the Amerisuites through Value Trips, for both 1/19-1/21 and 1/28-1/30, and both came back as blackout dates. We are now booked for both tie periods at Extendedstay for 126/night. Unless priceline comes through, I guess that's where we'll be staying.

Hi, after reading this thread , it seems as if you really know your stuff. We do not know Ft. Lauderdale at all, SO I am asking what you know about the La Quinta Inn and Suites Airport Fort Lauderdale, it is on 26th st. (neighborhood ok ?)We just need it for 1 night pre cruise and it states it is adjacent to the Oakwood mall, so if we need anything it should be a quick pick up there. Also it says Airport shuttle, cruise port shuttle, comp. breakfast. Do you know this hotel ?? What can you tell me. Appreciate your help thanks in advance.

Cori, I haven't been in that La Quinta, but the area is okay and that hotel has a following on here. I'm sure it's fine for a night. That "mall" is more like a collection of buildings. There are some restaurants, but the closest thing to a grocery/drug store is a K-Mart at the opposited end from the La Quinta.

I much prefer the SE 17th Street area as it's closer to the airport and just outside the entrance to Port Everglades with everything you could possibly want within easy walking distance.

I tried too (for the same dates) with the same luck.

I think we are now pretty set on Holiday Inn Air/Seaport over the other Holiday Inn... slightly less expensive, with shuttles/breakfast...

Well... I think that's what we're doing. This has been the hardest part of the planning process!

The Holiday Inn Express "Convention Center" is in a much better neighborhood though, just a block from the entrance to the port and closer to the airport as well. It's also got everything you could possibly want within easy, safe walking distance.

Cori, I haven't stayed at the La Quinta but have stayed in that area at Springhill Suites 3 seperate times. Trent is correct, it is an okay area but not much to do around there. Did get what we needed at K mart. This time we are staying in the 17th St area. There will be a better variety of places to eat, near the water taxi and of course Publix.

Hi Trent, thanks for the info, I am glad to hear it is an ok neighborhood. We are already booked there (hotwire) so I can't switch to the 17th street area, but I will know for next time. Just one more question, can we access the water taxi thing from there ? I think that is something we might like to do the one day we are there , and the pass you buy for the water taxi is that a day pass thing that you can get off and on , or is that a per trip ? It is really nice of you to take the time to answer all our questions, I for one really appreaciate it.

26_8_11.gifOne of my fave restaurants is on 17th Street - if you are staying there, try Bimini Boatyard - cool place, not too expensive. If the weather is good, sit outside on the dock. Giorgio's pizzas are good also!!! However, this is only my opinion - if you want to spend money on cabs, lots of good restaurants on Las Olas - jumping on Friday and Saturday nights!!

No, you're a long way away from the Water Taxi route... The La Quinta is along I-95 a couple of exits south of the airport. You're a 15 minute cab ride from the SE 17th Street area, which is as far south as the Water Taxi goes. They have an all day pass you can buy for $5. I understand that will be going up to $8.75 soon, but that's still a bargain. You can get on and off as many times as you wish with that.

Legalslave mentions Springhill Suites. We stayed there once in 2004. I have not been able to find that hotel on the Marriott website. Has the name changed?

Yes, it's no longer part of Marriott. It's now independent and called Stirling Suites. There actually isn't any name on the building at all, just the "Suites" part of the old sign. It doesn't look to be in very good shape on the outside and the Trip Advisor reviews aren't too good... http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g34168-d87228-Reviews-Stirling_Suites_Ft_Lauderdale_Airport-Dania_Florida.html

Thanks so much Trent. You are a wealth of information. You are so helpful to those of us who stay in Fort Lauderdale when cruising.

The Springhill Suites was looking worn when we were there in 2004. Sounds like nothing has been done to make any improvements.

Can anyone tell me anything about the Comfort Inn? We will be in Ft.Lauderdale in January for a short cruise on the Century. We want to visit the Seminole casino the day before the cruise and we are looking for a hotel near the port and near the casino.

I haven't been in that Comfort Inn, but a few people on here have and say it's fine for a night.

But if you want to go to the Seminole Hard Rock why not just stay there? It's a great hotel, and only about 15-20 minutes from FLL and Port Everglades... http://www.seminolehardrockhollywood.com/

Seminole Paradise is also part of the complex... http://www.seminoleparadise.com/

We too have tried Valuetrips for the Amerisuites l/19-22, blackout. Have also tried Hotwire, no real deals YET. We have used them before and have gotten great hotels within the last week. Like you we booked a room at the Extended Stay hotel (good location) as a back up because we didn't have to prepay. Looks like we may have to stay there. Are you on a cruise leaving on the 21 or 22? We are are Holland America, Sunday morn. Oregon Duck

We have booked the Holiday Inn Express on 17th SE, for the night before our cruise and one night after our cruise in Feb 06. The reason we are staying the night after is because it is my birthday, to celebrate would love to find a great seafood restaurant in the area. Do you have any suggestions? A couple of years ago when in Miami we ate on Lincoln Road and I had the best meal of my life there (lobster and crab), was hoping I could find something to equal or better the experience (it's my birthday so cost is not important).

Thank you....

I'm not the biggest seafood lover, but these are all close or easily accessible via Water Taxi... http://www.watertaxi.com/FortLauderdale/FLLHome.Asp

I haven't been there yet, but Tara Steak & Lobster is brand new and 2 doors west of the Holiday Inn... http://www.tarasteakandlobsterhouse.com/

Bimini Boatyard is across the street and a block east of the Holiday Inn.

Trents........... I as well as a lot of others, really appreciate all the input you've given. I'm driving in for a cruise on 2/12, and can't believe the prices I'm seeing !! I stayed at Amerisuites last month for $50, and now for the 2/11 date, the rate is almost $200 ! Problem is, I want a hotel where I can leave the car for a week while cruising. Do you know of any others besides Amerisuites that do this ? What about Extended stay, and Holiday Inn Express. ? Can't find anything on their websites about it. If anyone would know, I'm sure it's you !!!
