CasinoCruzGirl Posted February 5, 2016 #26 Share Posted February 5, 2016 My son booked an inside GTY. He received a mid ship balconÿ 2 days before the cruise.
lovenorwegiancruiseline Posted February 5, 2016 #27 Share Posted February 5, 2016 Does NCL give upgrade priority to the Platinum members first? I booked an inside gty cabin for my cruise and would love to be upgraded to a balcony cabin. For my cruise in April, I see lots of insides, outsides, balconies and even suites available. MerDub Posted February 6, 2016 Author #28 Share Posted February 6, 2016 Just wanted to update, I finally had a few minutes to research our newly assigned room and it's one of the square-shaped insides on deck 5, turns out it's a category IB (they don't tell you when you're assigned what category your new room is, so I assumed it was IX - whoops?) and those are actually about 16 sq ft larger than the standard rectangular insides, so I suppose as far as GTY luck-of-the-draw goes, we didn't end up doing terribly. So even if our old cabin was an I1 or I2 (which are the family insides) I still think we ended up doing better with the lower category that's slightly larger. We'll take all the extra space we can get! We're still going to continue to try for an upsell to a balcony, but prices have seriously been ALL OVER the place the last few days. They just added a free $100 credit for the casino to our sailing as well. I don't think I'll bother my PCC with it though, since we already got our drinks included and we're not really gamblers - although on our RCCL cruise last year I walked away with $30 from the slot machines! I think we've had decent luck already and I'd rather pester him for upsells than for a casino credit hah! But even if not at least we did alright where inside cabins are concerned. Sundiego Posted February 6, 2016 #29 Share Posted February 6, 2016 They just added a free $100 credit for the casino to our sailing as well. I saw that! Grrr. If if if... if I had just waited a few extra days before booking I would have come out waaay ahead. When you book last minute, I guess you never know what is right around the corner, better or worse?? Happy with my cabin (BX to BC) but really annoyed that NCL threw the perks in a few days ago since they made such a big deal of the "must be 30 days out" thing and then switched the rules. We could have booked this cruise 30 days out, but the prices were way higher than the value of the perk. I'm going to keep calling the UPSELL # in the hopes of a spa cabin. Good luck to you MerDub! ~Denise

Good luck to you MerDub! ~Denise GAH I knoooow! We missed the promo by like 3 days and they were like, yup sorry that sucks? Nothing we can do, conditions clearly state that you have to be over 30 days from sailing. Then they just randomly added it back on for a few sailings? And it looks like maybe only on our ship. Last minute bookings really do end up a bit of a mess sometimes, don't they? Well hopefully you have luck with the upsell department that makes up for missing out on the promo. They're clearly getting desperate to get rid of rooms with all these perks but every time I call for an upsell they tell me there's nothing available. I keep forgetting that we're still 8 days out though because I'm flying down to Florida on Thursday to spend some time with family so it seems sooner than it is. I already sent my suitcase down actually. But anything can change in 8 days. My PCC said to touch base with him on Monday and he'd see what he could do for us, so I'm still holding out hope of something better. We'd gladly pay for a balcony or better. And there's TONS of them left!! Same with the spa rooms! Those ones with the hot tubs in them look amaaaaazing hah! JUST LET ME INTO THE HAVEN!!! Good luck with the upsell, keep us updated! MerDub... are you actually calling the UPSELL phone # (800-625-4309)? Because I have called them 3 different times. First time... $500 pp for H5 in Haven, and $750 pp for Haven spa suite. Last 2 times I called, the H5 was upped to $1,000 pp! I don't really want the Haven or the spa tub in the room, I just want the free access to the "big" spa! I asked them if they had spa minisuites or spa balconys, and Upsell said only those 2 Haven categories were "on the list" for our sailing. I am curious if the upsells offered to my balcony gty is different than the upsells offered to your inside gty? ~Denise

I'm going to try again today. If I got offered $500pp for H5 on top of what I paid for my inside GTY I would have been getting the deal of the century haha! Edit: Upsell dept is only open Mon-Fri 9-5. Will try the main line and see if there's anything. Edited February 6, 2016 by MerDub
Sawdec Posted February 6, 2016 #33 Share Posted February 6, 2016 We are booked in a Oceanview gty. I've never done a guarantee before but the inside and Oceanview gty were the se price.

So I guess the upsells offered to your balcony GTY are definitely different to my Inside GTY. Still trying though haha!
JPEvans Posted February 10, 2016 #35 Share Posted February 10, 2016 I sailed the Breakaway the week after Thanksgiving in 2014. I booked a inside Guaranteed as a single. A month before I got assigned to a cabin, an inside On one of the higher decks. I was thrilled. However, I keep an eye on the rates. A balcony became available for the price I paid. I called NCL, and they gave it To me. I keep checking rates. About a week before sailing. Mini suites became Available for less than I paid. Called back again, they gave me the mini suite. I was really thrilled.

I have a gty ocean view on Star next year in Jan. on Hong Kong to Sydney and will be hopeful. Can't see people flocking to that itinerary.
ray98 Posted October 7, 2016 #37 Share Posted October 7, 2016 We did very well last fall. I initially booked an inside GTY. There was a price drop before sailing so I was able to get upgraded to an oceanview GTY. We were later assigned a deck 8 mid-ship balcony.
peacefulOR Posted October 8, 2016 #38 Share Posted October 8, 2016 I'd be curious to know if anyone has done a guarantee on a very popular ship like the Getaway and watched prices soar instead of descend. How did you do on getting an upgrade? With the new "upsell" bid program in effect starting in November we may not even get the e-mail that allows you to bid (unknown cabin, at that). Any input from experience or good guessing;) on how the new system will work out? Thank you!
