Rare Cruisegirl6 Posted February 8, 2016 #1 Share Posted February 8, 2016 My adult daughter and her bf want to do the cave tubing excursion, they received a letter from Carnival regarding the mosquito borne diseases and we do know its very active here and she is most concerned as she can't afford to get sick as she must get back to work after the cruise. Has anybody done this excursion and those who haven't that been in Belitz have gotten mosquito bites? Even with mosquito repellent you can still get bitten and we would like your feedback so that she can decide whether to cancel the excursion or not. We like to hear if anybody has gotten bitten here and any advice you can give would be appreciated, thank you.
Rare crewsweeper Posted February 8, 2016 #2 Share Posted February 8, 2016 Always use an insect repellent, preferably with DEET. Non-DEET repellents don't always work well for everyone. Put the repellent on prior to sunscreen. Most mosquitos feed early in the day and nearer to sundown, so you shouldn't see a lot of activity, but you never know. hawk1972 Posted February 8, 2016 #3 Share Posted February 8, 2016 We were in Belize last week (2/2/16). We did the Lamanai ruins excursion, not cavetubing. Most people on our tour put on repellent, but I only saw one mosquito the whole day, and that was on our bus in Belize City. None on the river or at the ruins. The biggest health hazard for us was the women spraying on repellent in the back of the bus and at the restaurant and gassing us out! Ha ha! The mosquito is trapped on the bus:D
