Hi,

I will be on the Norwegian Sky sailing 24th October.

First stop will be Grand Bahama.

Not sure what to exprect. I heard so many different things.

Is it worth going ashore?

If yes, book an excursion or just walk off?

sorry, will be my first time to the Bahamas and I have sooo many questions.

It's been a while since we've been to this port, but if memory serves, its industrial so you will need a plan when you get off the ship. No place to walk to in the immediate vicinity. We booked a snorkeling excursion but it rained that day, so we changed to a city tour on a bus which had stops at two different shopping areas. It was decent for what it was in the rain.

The port is at freeport but located in an industrial area with no where to walk nearby. Once departing the ship is a shopping , area with bars and places to eat.

They have cabs which will take you into freeport town but there is very little to see IMO

They have taxis which will take you to Port Lucaya ( 20 minutes away ) This is the main tourist area for Grand Bahama. It has a nice beach, shopping area , bars and even a casino.

There are excursions to take you to beach and other places available through the ship or available in the areas just off the ship

For my money, I would do NCL's $49 p/p beaches and caves shore excursion. Takes you to Gold Rock Beach, the Lucayan National Park and Banana Bay Restaurant. At Banana Bay you buy your own food - get cracked conch! Or something else Bahamian. Restaurant is directly on the beach.

Gold Rock Beach does not have any facilities. No beach chairs - nothing. Bring blow up beach lounges! And beach towels!
