cavydad Posted February 13, 2016 #1 Share Posted February 13, 2016 My cruise ship tenders into Lahaina and I am looking for a tour to the up country and Haleakala. On Hawaii I have booked Ricky's Tours. Is there a similar tour company on Maui?
Silver Sweethearts Posted February 14, 2016 #2 Share Posted February 14, 2016 Are you thinking of doing Haleakala at sunrise, sunset or during the day? Are there any places in particular that you want to visit Upcountry? Would you consider renting a car and doing your own tour?
cavydad Posted February 14, 2016 Author #3 Share Posted February 14, 2016 We prefer to do it during the daytime. The sunrise sounded interesting as our ship arrives at mid night. But we really want to see the up country as well as the mountain top during the day time.
cavydad Posted February 14, 2016 Author #4 Share Posted February 14, 2016 I considered renting a car. Lat time we rented a car and drove to Hana. Everyone had a great time. I want to gawk rather than drive this time.
Silver Sweethearts Posted February 14, 2016 #5 Share Posted February 14, 2016 I considered renting a car. Lat time we rented a car and drove to Hana. Everyone had a great time. I want to gawk rather than drive this time. There are several tour companies that offer daytime excursions to Haleakala and the surrounding Upcountry area (we live Upcountry), but none quite as convenient as what you have found with Ricky on the Big Island. The problem here is finding a company that will pick you up and drop you off in Lahaina. Yes, we are sure it can be done, but the cost may be more than what you want to pay. Some of the places the tour companies want to take you are fine, but others are not worth your time. We understand you are not keen on renting a car again (not all roads here are as crazy as the road to Hana), but it would be far more economical and allow you to see the points of interest that appeal to you. Kula Highway and Haleakala Highway are easy driving. Do give it some additional thought.
