beckers Posted October 12, 2005 #1 Share Posted October 12, 2005 I just got an e-mail the Spirit is now doing a one day sailing from NYC like it did from SFO. I got a price on the inside for $172.99 per person. The date is November 18th.
Phamer55 Posted October 12, 2005 #2 Share Posted October 12, 2005 Wow, that is expensive. The 1-nighter from SF is only $99pp.
Don Haynes Posted October 12, 2005 #3 Share Posted October 12, 2005 NCL has over a month to sell this cruise, whereas in San Francisco they only had a week or so. And notice that the price of the San Francisco cruises have gone up since they were first announced.... And the New York area also has three to four times the population of the San Francisco area, keep these things in mind when you say its more expensive.... TrinaLC Posted October 12, 2005 #4 Share Posted October 12, 2005 not terribly appealing, sailing from NY one day in Nov?!
beckers Posted October 12, 2005 Author #5 Share Posted October 12, 2005 I know the price is pretty expensive for one night. I would have to drive 4 hours to get there. :( I would like to see the ship however. But I would do it for more like $
emcemt Posted October 13, 2005 #6 Share Posted October 13, 2005 I hope they drop the price too!! I'm on the 11/19 thanksgiving sailing and would defenitley add the day if it was under $100. It would be my first B2B:D
emcemt Posted October 13, 2005 #7 Share Posted October 13, 2005 Actually I just checked the prices and it it 202 for an inside....$222 for an oceanview and $252 for a balcony. Those prices are ridiculous.
shoreguy Posted October 13, 2005 #8 Share Posted October 13, 2005 Actually I just checked the prices and it it 202 for an inside....$222 for an oceanview and $252 for a balcony. Those prices are ridiculous. Not a great cruise deal but a great deal for a weekend in the city. I just booked the Dawn one night cruise on the 29th. What do you get for the $500? A lot more then you can on land in the city. A nice lunch for 2 fancy restaurant - $60 5 course dinner for 2 - $120 Hotel - room with a view - $400 (balcony priceless:D ) Tickets to a show - $150 Late night comedy show - $50 Breakfast from room service - $30 Cabs to shows, clubs, restaurants and back - $50 Drink Prices 2x the ship ?$ That same weekend could cost over $900 on land and for me that was the benchmark. Not ridiculous but a bargain when you look at the market. The one nighter is not marketed as a cruise but a one night dinner dance - Lunch, hotel, show, and breakfast included. If it was not priced correctly it would not have sold out months ago. A few cabins just opened this week and the seem to vanish in hours.
TrinaLC Posted October 13, 2005 #9 Share Posted October 13, 2005 Except that the show is not exactly NY standards ... we walked out on quite a few on our recent Dawn trip. But still, added up like this, seems better - but I still wouldn't do it given the loss of all the outdoor areas in winter - even the balcony is really useless. (Maybe not true though for your upcoming trip - this Oct has been so warm!)

More if you have to go to a broker.
brooklynphil Posted October 15, 2005 #11 Share Posted October 15, 2005 Hi, Anyone know if you can board the one day cruise at 12:00pm to 1:00pm? If you can, then it's worth it. You'll get about 20 hours then. Also, I don't think that it's worth getting insurance for a cruise that costs only couple or hundred dollars or so. What do you guys think? Thanks,

Thanks, I will be at the pier by 11 am for the Dawn 1 day - I expect like any week I will be able to board around noon or a little after and get all the hours onboard I can. To make it a full weekend in the city we will hit one of the museums on Sunday and get home round supper time.
kingtns Posted October 15, 2005 #13 Share Posted October 15, 2005 I saw it as cheap as 129.00 (inside) plus 43 for the taxes. Although I always get a balcony for 1 night I don't think I would waiste my time sleeping so it will just be a changing room for me! Thinking of taking it with my sister, No Hubby...No Kids, dancing, eating, drinking, casino, shows...sounds like a good deal to me. The only downfall is it's only a 1 nighter, & for sure no sunshine, I'll be inside the whole time!! Wonder if the casino will be rigged, they know if you win your walking away with the money!! brooklynphil Posted October 15, 2005 #14 Share Posted October 15, 2005 Thanks shoreguy. I guess I'll get there about 12:00pm if I do book it. I'll just hop on the subway from Coney Island (no luggage of course), walk to the pier and let the fun begin. Phil
awatt Posted October 16, 2005 #15 Share Posted October 16, 2005 Shoreguy- Your thoughts on the cost of an evening in NY are right on the mark. For our 10th anniv we had dinner st a 3 star restaurant, which was excellent, saw a Broadway show and stayed at the Hyatt. I believe it was between $800-900 for teh night. Which is why for our 15th anniversary the 10/29 Dawn cruise did not seem outrageous. See you there!
