Hi i'll be sailing on Disney wonder to Alaska this Summer.

In Juneau, Disney offers 2 heli tour & dog sledding excursions , one to Norris & other to Mendenhall glacier, operated by different companies.

I'm wondering if there is much difference between them.

We have not been, but are traveling this June. Based on reviews and CC boards we booked the dogsledding with second glacier landing with Coastal helicopters. We liked the idea of dogsledding and second landing on the lower part of the glacier as well. Feedback from other CC members referrenced the dogsledding has more snow and the second landing allows for you to experience the Ice feel of the glacier. Again, we have not been, but are excited to go! Have fun planning!

I have flown these glacier areas, numerous times. It makes NO difference what glacier. They are in a constant state of change anyway.

There are 3 vendors that do these tours in Juneau. Each a long time, excellent run vendor. Tours are all similar- with similar amounts of time.

The "longer" flight mentioned above, is only a few minutes, take a look at a map, and this is not the information to get from HAL (whos rep probably hasn't even been to Alaska).

You want accurate, factual information- then get it direct from the vendor.

Final fact- this is a ride, you do not drive any sleds. You go out, usually with a group of 3 passengers and 1 driver. You can switch your spot if your group wants to.

Always have back up plans, and if a priority, book this tour at your first opportunity. IF canceled, be prepared to know, if you would take a regular glacier landing, if available, you won't have a lot of time to decide.

If dog sledding is your priority- then get right on the phone and call the vendor/s at the next available port, Juneau, Skagway, Seward. Don't wait.
