We are scheduled to go on the Carnival Liberty 5 day on Nov 26th for our family (7 of us).

We live in Georgetown which is a 4 hour drive from Galveston.

Should we stay the night before in Galveston or just head straight down on Saturday morning?

I am leaning toward driving the morning of but I remember the traffic on 290 just to get to Houston was a nightmare so am a little worried on how it would be from Houston to Galveston.

Galveston hotels are so over priced, I would stay at a hotel close by and save some money. we fly into hobby and used to stay on Galveston but since they doubled the price for the better hotels we stay at a hotel by hobby and get a ride in next day.

I live an hour further from Houston, than you. Consider that there will be a lot of Christmas shoppers out and about at that time of year. Also, there is frequent road construction on the way.

I would recommend going the day before. In theory, going the day of should be ok, but it will be stressful.

Yeah, and we will be travelling with 5 kids (12,13,13,16,16) so probably will just bite the bullet and stay at a homewood suites near hobby. That way it will only be 45 minutes to the terminal and a lot less stressful in the morning.

This is our third time driving to Galveston. We always stay near Hobby. It has always been an easy drive to the port in the morning. In fact we will be staying this Saturday at the Drury Inn Hobby Airport for our cruise Sunday on the Carnival Magic. We have stayed here the other two times. So I guess you could say we are happy with that hotel. Love the extras (hot food in the evening, hot breakfast, free soft drinks and popcorn) We also use a code to get a lower rate. We enter FUN in the promo code box. It usually saves us some money.
