wine on board procedure

I plan on bringing wine on board.

1. Two 1.5L of wine that We will use and I want to pay the corkage fee ASAP (how much is it for a 1.5L?). So I carry it my suitcase to get checked in? Or do I carry it on?

2. I want to bring a back up bottle but I don't know if we will drink it. Can I just have it in my room and if needed later in the cruise charge me a corkage fee for the 3rd bottle ?

This is the first time I ever brought wine aboard.

Hello,

I'm no expert but based on the extensive research I've been doing for the past year, I believe you are limited to a maximum of 2 bottles of wine to bring on board. 750 ml is the size you are allowed so you will not be allowed to bring your larger sized bottles. Also, you will need to carry them on with you and you must pay your corkage fee upon embarkation.

Hope this helps!

Completely incorrect. There is no limit to how many you can bring on and you can bring larger bottles.

It's $30 per 1.5L and $15 per .750L, there is a table right after security at POM that they direct you to where you show them your cruise docs they record your room, place a small sticker on the bottles and you'll see the charges in a day or so on your account. We did have one bottle of champagne left over but we did not inquire about a refund. If you put it in your checked bag and they find it, you will have to go to the naughty room that evening to claim your bag and still pay the corkage fee.

So you left one whole bottle behind plus didn't ask for a refund? Or did they give you the bottle back?

Good to know! See? I was completely wrong! I learn something new everyday! I have the UBP but still plan to bring 2 bottles on my upcoming cruise because I like the idea of being able to drink a high-quality wine that I chose from a vast selection at a wine shop without having to go to the bar and stand in line. But, wait, am I wrong about having to stand in line when I go to the bar? I hope so!

We took the bottle home but if it was possible to get a refund and whatever hoops we would have to jump through just wasn't worth our time, we ate the 15 bucks.

Ahhh. Good to know!

I was wondering if they bottle of champagne was a tip for the staff. Lol

We bring wine on most of the time. We carry it on in a wheeled bag. They are usually very happy we know that we have to pay a charge. Sometimes the bottles are tagged, sometimes not.

In the states they usually give us a hand written receipt and it goes on our account. In Europe sometimes they charge and sometimes they don't.

We usually don't bring a bottle to dinner, we just ask the steward for wine glasses and enjoy it in our room. If we want special red wine or sparkling wine glasses we usually pick them up from a bar ourselves.

Even with the UBP we will probably carry on a couple bottles for convenience.

Cheers!

Vic

This is what we are planning on doing. Is the fridge (we have a family balcony cabin) big enough for 2 bottles of wine?

What happens if you put them in checked luggage? I don't mind paying the fee but don't want to carry on. Do they scan all the luggage for wine and then they would stop us before boarding?

I don't think any line differentiates between a "normal" bottle and a "backup" bottle. My advice is to plan to pay the corkage on all bottles brought on board. Its really no big deal when compared to the price charged on-board.

Put it in your carry on, $30/ 1.5.

You will have to pay for the 3rd bottle. If you don't consume it, you can get a refund.

Your concierge or guest services can issue you a refund. I've used both and never had a problem.

This is a copy from my July 2014 cruise the wine selection and prices

may have changed - as usual YMMV.

This package CAN NOT BE SELECTED PRE-CRUISE !

It is only available briefly upon boarding and maybe a day thereafter.

After boarding the ship inquire where the Viva Vino can be purchased - it is

frequently in the Main Atrium Registration Desk area and sometimes at

the pool deck.

The wine purchased can be made available in your stateroom or kept and

made available when dining in any of the restaurants. Want it at a bar let

the bartender know. You are issued a small paper receipt with your name

cabin number and the wine category selected. Show that paper receipt at

any restaurant or bar to have your bottle served.

NOT available for room service.

HOWEVER you can have all or some of the bottles available in your cabin

for drinking. Like your wine lightly chilled have your cabin steward or butler

furnish your cabin with a champagne ice bucket AND CORKSCREW !

$176 x 18% x 1.33 exchange rate = $276

It's cheaper for us to buy the wine in Miami and bring on board. I don't have a great wine palate. I can likely find something I like for $5-$10 a bottle. So that is max $25/bottle x 8 = $200

In addition.... For example a bottle of J.Lhor sales in Canadian for 28 while retailing at Walgreens Miami for 12..... The aggravation of carrying it is less than the pocket and palate discomfort!

Will they be able to store opened champagne for next day use ?

I had one bottle of Prosecco of 750ml ... They did keep it for next morning... But I recommend to bring your own fizz keeper and ask hem to put it on your bottle .... You can always take your bottle to your cabin.... to prevent your good air sealer to be replaced .... Take my word... It happend to a gentleman dinning next to me.... Waiter couldn't explain where the keeper went ....

Or try the 375 bottles..... Perfect size for 2 mimosss :)

I never thought of a champagne stopper getting stolen. I always bring one and have taken note.

Question: since you mentioned the splits, did you get charged corkage $15.00 for (2) 375?

Yes, they took the two as one.

I know it is a pain to drag all your wine on embarkation but I was lucky to embark in NOLA, so I had couple of bottles that I got on duty free and some Canadian Ice wine and bought the rest at Walgreens while in SoBe when we port in Miami before crossing..... To me was worth it, for the value and specially because I got to drink my prefer wines which were not available on board.

Thank you for the info and mentioning it. I never thought about taking splits!

I have always taken champagne/wine and, like you, I think it is well worth having wine/champ you like. I bought rolling wine carriers (holds 6 ea.) which I use as my overnight bag the last night.

My definition of "good" wine is that which tastes great and costs less than $10. Note that I have been a wine "taster" for more than 30 years.

Others will say good wine is that what costs more - it's your choice.

Go for it!
