Cruising South out of San Francisco

I can honestly say I am always disappointed once the rocking and rolling diminishes once we get out of the "potato patch." I'm one of those oddballs that actually enjoys the feeling of being on a ship and not a big hotel sitting on the water. Sometimes the waters are rough for closer to 12-18 hours, depending on the weather and that is nothing anyone can predict. As long as El Nino sticks around, you can count on a greater possibility of "weather."

I get car sick on winding roads if I'm not the driver. (Really!) Before our first cruise I went to the doctor and got the patch. Transderm SCOP. The first night out of SF heading to Alaska we hit a pretty good storm and the ship was tossing and heaving. People were staggering all over the place at breakfast the next morning and for pretty much the entire day as the ship boomed and shuddered it's way through the waves. I didn't get even a twinge of sickness.

I will never cruise without my patch and I have never gotten sick even when the "iron-stomached" people are feeling queasy. There were a fair number of people on our Panama Canal cruise last year who were feeling poorly when we skirted a tropical storm. I was fine. :D

Like Charles we just got back from 15 days RT SF-Hawaii . Heck of a storm as we left SF, 12-16 foot seas and 40-50 kt winds. 2nd day out we were listing 5 deg to port due to wind. Lucky I brought bungee cords that I used to tie back doors and drawers!
