Multiple Cabins

Greetings Cunard Cruisers

We are in the very, very early stages of considering our next cruise, and wanted to try something a little more formal than Princess. My question is more for the sake of satisfying curiosity than anything else, so please keep that in mind when answering.

When we travel with our children, who are now 20 and 16 but will be 22 and 18 when and if we take our next cruise, we would prefer to put them in a separate cabin. Although we've done it, as recently as last week, four to a cabin is a little too close quarters for us these days.

Generally speaking, when we book separate cabins, the kids get an inferior cabin, inside or oceanview, while we take either a balcony or hopefully a suite next cruise.

Given that your cabin type determines where you dine, how does Cunard handle this? Would we dine with the kids in the dining room assigned to the oceanview cabins?

Again, just curious. Not a game changer, not a judgment on levels of service, etc. Just plain curiosity.

Thank you to any who indulge my curiosity. :)

If you are in a suite and they are not, only you would be able to eat in the Princess Grill or Queens Grill restaurant. You would be able to make arrangements to eat with them in the Britannia Restaurant.

Since you have experience having four to a stateroom, why not save some money and book yourself a Britannia balcony stateroom. They are perfectly adequate in size and that way you won't waste the money you are spending in part on the Grills restaurant (that you wouldn't use much or at all).

There are three restaurants (four on QM2 and QE) the Britannia where all those in Inside, Oceanview and Balcony cabins dine, Britannia Club for those in Britannia Club balcony cabins on QM2 and QE, Princess Grill for those in Princess Grill cabins and Queen's Grill for those in Queen's Grill cabins. You are able to dine down - with permission from the Maitre d', but you may not dine up.

So as long as you and your children have Britannia grade cabins, whether they be inside, outside or balcony, you may all dine together.

Enjoy Cunard.

Hi bankerbabe. As you know, the cabin category you book will determine where you and your children dine. These are the cabin categories on Cunard ships: Britannia, Britannia Club, Princess Grill and Queens Grill.

If, for example, if you book a Britannia balcony cabin for you & your hubby, and an inside cabin across the hall for the kids, you will all be assigned the main dining room. I believe 85% of cabins on QM2 are Britannia Category. If you book a Britannia Club balcony and a Britannia category inside cabin for the kids, you and your husband can eat in the Britannia Club restaurant (but without your children) OR you can all arrange to eat in the main dining room with your kids.

More information regarding dining can be found here: https://ask.cunard.com/help/cunard/life-on-board/az_rest:

Happy planning:)

Salacia

P.S. Just to mention that muster stations can vary within cabin categories. So even if you book two cabins in the same category, your muster stations may not be the same. I'm sure Cunard can give you specific information if required.

Gill, if I've read the recent news correctly, I think that by the time the OP sails, there will be Britannia Club categories (cabins and restaurants) on all the Cunard ships. -S.
