Ontariotrekker Posted March 30, 2016 #1 Share Posted March 30, 2016 I've booked a solo cabin, 5301 on the Sun and was hoping folks could give me feedback about that location ie. noise levels, ease of getting around the ship etc. Thanks
shoppinggem Posted March 31, 2016 #2 Share Posted March 31, 2016 I'd love to know too! We had a GTY room and have been assigned this deck as well.
don't-use-real-name Posted March 31, 2016 #3 Share Posted March 31, 2016 I've booked a solo cabin, 5301 on the Sun and was hoping folks could give me feedback about that location ie. noise levels, ease of getting around the ship etc. Thanks Have you located where your cabin is on a deck plan diagram. Go to NCL.com and search for information about the NCL SUN. Look around for deck plans and highlight and click on deck 5. You will see that your cabin is just around the corner from the main elevators and the Atrium Shore Excursions desks. To speed things along Links to your deck: ***** http://www.beyondships.com/files/N_Sun_deck_plan.pdf ***** An alternate deck plan (better) to view click on deck 5 ATLANTIC: ***** https://www.cruisedeckplans.com/DP/deckplans/Norwegian-Sun ***** Note the area forward of your cabin is void of detail - this could very well be engineering and or crew space used by cabin stewards - not likely to be a noisy area. On the back bulkhead wall of your cabin is a staircase - again not an area of noise. You do have an adjacent cabin aft of yours before the foyer to the stairs and elevators. You cabin is in an area that should be very quiet as unlike other NCL ships the Theatre is aft instead of forward - so it is not a traffic prone area (passageway) but almost a dead end. Only problem is that just around the corner of your cabin on both sides of the ship is the gangway opening for going ashore. You still are out of the way but maybe stressed to go somewhere on the ship while it is in port - but advantage to you to be so close to slip out the door and go ashore and coming back on board. Your location is just forward of the center of the ship so you should expect to have a smooth unruffled ride - how nice. Excellent choice ! shadowmeboy Posted March 31, 2016 #4 Share Posted March 31, 2016 We have stayed in 5001. Deck 5 staterooms are always quiet due to the fact they are dead end hallways. The atrium is only busy during certain times, mainly embarkation and disembarkation, and certain ports. You should be fine, and only hear a small amount of noise. Ontariotrekker Posted March 31, 2016 Author #5 Share Posted March 31, 2016 Thanks to everyone who responded to my question, as always my fellow cruisers came through! I cruise for the ports not the on ship experience so I like to be able to get to the theatre or buffet without too much trouble. I am near the exit but I suspect ?? I'll have to go to a general meeting place prior to disembarking for the tours which in this case will probably be the other end of the ship. Thanks again, Shar
Quilting_Cruiser Posted April 2, 2016 #6 Share Posted April 2, 2016 So glad you asked this question. I'm just down the hall in an ocean view for my Sun cruise next year. I was searching to see if there were any comments about this area. I'm happy to hear it's generally a quiet area. It'll be interesting to be so close to the gangway--hopefully that means waiting in line to get off the ship will be minimized. :p

Easy access to everything due to two banks of elevators being right there.
CalLuvsCrusingToo Posted April 3, 2016 #8 Share Posted April 3, 2016 We were on 6A last year on the Sun, which I really liked the location. Ocean view cabin. Halls were fairly quiet. But as far as Quiet in our Cabin? Thats another story! Our rooms AC/Fan was so So LOUD. You could hardly hear yourself think. Somebody came to check it out & basically said there was nothing he could do. I wanted to take a sledgehammer to it. The vent also takes up a whole wall too, and blows constantly. I came home with a massive sinus infect. Unless they've done a fantastic refurb? We would NOT book it again.:(
OhJinkies Posted April 3, 2016 #9 Share Posted April 3, 2016 I didn't think the Sun had solo cabins!
shadowmeboy Posted April 3, 2016 #10 Share Posted April 3, 2016 I didn't think the Sun had solo cabins! I believe they are putting some in on the dry dock.
Ontariotrekker Posted April 3, 2016 Author #11 Share Posted April 3, 2016 Sorry re the solo comment, I'm in a double but going solo :) Sadly, I have no history with NCL so the price for the whole cabin is being charged. I'm currently re-thinking this and maybe going with HAL. I'm a 3*, same itinerary but in late 2016, not early 2017. Thanks for all of the feedback - Shar
don't-use-real-name Posted April 3, 2016 #12 Share Posted April 3, 2016 Not all cabins are the same dimensions uniformly through out the ship. Using one of the LINKS I provided: https://www.cruisedeckplans.com/DP/d.../Norwegian-Sun From this link click on Deck 5 (Atlantic) and slide your mouse device over the cabins and a small window opens showing a generic lay out of the cabin with 4 views and a square footage of the cabin. Your cabin 5301 is 121 square feet + or - fine for a solo cruiser but rather tight for two. Slide your mouse across the passageway and note these OV cabins are 175 square feet. You can click on any deck and take a look at the cabins on that deck. Helpful hint for our readers - just note that the generic design is the same and in some cases (about 50%) of the time the image will be a reverse or mirror image of the actual cabin. If one subscribes to cruisedeckplans.com (for a small fee*) and after you log in click on the deck and pick out a specific cabin frequently members have offered photos of that cabin and while amateurish these give a better idea of what to expect in selecting your cabin on the next cruise. *That fee is lifetime and not month or year to year! A another nice feature is the "Drag Decks" where you can position one deck over or under another to see what is above and below your cabin selection. Hint - position the stairways and elevators to correctly position the decks one on top of another. And you thought cabin selection was easy. Do some research before booking and get the most space and features (bang for buck) you can - find out what the booking categories are - not all cabins are the same ! Some cabins are booked out a year or so in advance while others are left for grabs just before sailing - it is location location and location and then features features and features. If working with a seasoned TA or PCC they should direct you to the best cabin of your cruise requirements. Booking early has its advantages. Continued reading here at CC may result in getting that custom deal and cabin selection that is best for you ! Feel free to come back and ask more questions and offer your comments about a recent cruise !
