Magic Smoking

I am getting ready to book the magic, but it seems the smoking policy has changed since we went on the breeze last year. Not looking to cause trouble or start anything I just want to know the best side to book as a non smoker. I know I want the Lido Deck just not sure what side. I know there is smoking on port side 5 and aft 11. Any help would be great. Thanks!

Smoking is port side deck 5

And all deck 11 starboard side.

If you wish to limit seeing smoking book a balcony on the starboard side of the ship.

If you couldn't and had to be port, go higher deck 8 and up.

Does Magic have a Guys burger place? That can affect smoking locations.

:confused:What does Guys Burgers have to do with smoking? From what I have seen on previous cruises, Guys is located at the same place as where just regular burgers are, otherwise.

I'm confused, if smoking is permitted on all of deck 11 starboard, why would you book a balcony on that side? Wouldn't you want to book on the port side?

Went on Liberty right after 2.0. Smoking prior to it was on Lido. After Guys went in, smoking near there was banned and we had an impromptu area up one deck directly over it out in the elements.

Well, most of the balconies on deck 12, 11 and 10 are forward of the smoking area, which starts at midship doors and goes aft .

It allows smoking where you can be covered and see the happenings at the pool deck.

I doubt the smoking would reall affect any balconies on the starboard side. The next set of cabins are 2 decks below on deck 9.

However, a balcony on deck 6 near the lanai seating area and the red frog pub seating area on deck 5 might be another matter.

I just found out these areas are no longer on JH's page, after the drydock. Only reason I know is a friend of mine, who smokes, is going and found out that Deck 5 & 11 have been reduced to a small portion of the AFT area. This was on his page and he acknowledged. My friend said she planned on being on Deck 11 alot, but that has changed to the casino. She was advised by a Carnival rep to use the casino, casino bar and/or nightclub.

Personally I do not like her habit, but would rather it be outside. I hope she's the only one that is changing her plans to indoors. I can understand her choosing to go to the casino over the back of the boat. We reserved our cabins on deck 11, forward because of her and it the cabins being so close to a smoking area. Now, the closest is the casino. I like being on the top of the ship and the other side is non-smoking. I am fine with the location.

The changes below we saw for deck 11 only.

Unless they have changed it since we were on the Magic, the casino is about the worst place to smoke. One side of the bar is designated smoking, the other non. People were almost sitting in each other's laps on the smoking side. Tight and uncomfortable looking. And, I don't know how closely it was enforced, but you weren't supposed to smoke in the smoking section of slots, unless you were playing.

Outside the Red Frog pub she could sit at a table, get a drink (or not) and be able to smoke. They serve complimentary snacks (some kind of spicy dried up pea looking stuff that is actually pretty good) There are some outside games there to either play or watch people play. And just before Red Frog outside the Ocean Plaza, lots of tables and seats and you can hear the music from the Plaza. Might be better options.

Apparently this happened right after dry dock. John Heald & Mischelle both acknowledged it. I just heard of it last week. I don't know when the ship got out of dry dock. I know it wasn't that long ago.

Someone posted this on John's page. So many were happy, me included, until one of the smokers said, well I guess we're going inside for the week. That made me pause and think about what I was happy about.

I just hope the casino doesn't get worse with not much outdoor areas (that really get used on deck 5 & 11). Was terrible on the Sunshine (my last cruise). Yes, the bar was about 3 people deep on the smoking side. My first cruise since 2014, Sunshine. I like Port Canaveral. So I tend to cruise only from there as it is a forty minute drive for me.

Like I said, I'd rather my friend be outside on deck 11 than inside the casino. She is not going to walk practically the entire length of the ship to get to that smoking area. An elevator right to the casino is about four doors from our balcony.

As you said, the change was only shown for Deck 11. Wonder how to find out about the areas I was speaking of? Both just steps from the casino. I don't do FB, and if I call Carnival, you can get a different answer from every person you talk to. I have a friend that was on the fence about Magic, and has decided to book as to the info I gave her, as I told you, Ocean Plaza and Red Frog. Hope I did not steer her wrong. We are doing Freedom next and that's why she isn't going on it. No Ocean Plaza or outside area on that deck.

This was the diagram for deck 5 that was shown last week.

This is only for the Magic after drydock from what I've seen. But, could include all dream class ships when they hit that.

Yikes!! Big difference! That whole outside area shown, used to be smoking. It has been reduced significantly. I better call my friend and see if this is a problem. Thanks for info!!

As far as I know it's just for the Magic. No other ships that I know of.

Last time I was on the Magic there was smoking port side deck 5 and starboard side deck 11. My daughter just returned from a post- dry dock 3/27 cruise and reported a very small area on deck 5, none of it covered, and a very small area on 11 aft.

Our next booked cruise is on the Breeze out of Galveston. If the outdoor smoking area is reduced this way of course we will be in the casino.

My friend also. She would rather be on deck 11, but the extreme shrinkage (Not Castanza) is going to make her change plans to the casino also.

  • 4 weeks later...

Could someone please clarify for me the statement that there is now smoking on the aft part of the Magic? Does anyone know exactly where? I just booked an aft extended balcony on deck 7 and will change it if it is anywhere near smoking. Thanks.

I will post some smoking area shot later but basically its on Deck 5 directly aft of the Red Frog Pub outdoor seating area. Basicially outside right next to Vibe port side and in front of Prime Steakhouse.

There is the Red Frog Pub seating area (no smoking anymore) and the two wind block screens on deck, the smoking area is aft of those wind blocks.

So as I look at deck plans cabins around 7400 or so aft to around 7426 are very close or directly above the smoking area.

Thus then, 6418 to 6434 are corresponding cabins even closer.

Those cabins farther aft are above the narrow part of the promenade.

Not great pictures but...

these are the wind screens and the smoking section beyond. Red Frog pub seating area is where I am standing.

Here I have entered the smoking area - looking aft. The black entry way is into vibe night club.
