Just off Conquest

Just returned from a 8day cruise on the conquest. Let me know if you have any questions. Did not sail with kids so do not know about kid activities.

Did I meet you on board the ship somewhere? I spent a lot of time on the sea days towards the aft of deck 10, and in the casino at night.

Port days were spent on the local beaches and I got a heck of a tan after building my base on the Glory 21 day B2B in Jan & Feb.

This Conquest sailing was my last cruise as a platinum and the next time I board this ship in June it will be as a diamond.

Some cruisers were complaining about the ship rockin and rollin between San Juan and Grand Turk, but I rather enjoyed it.

Did it bother you?

We will be on the next cruise leaving Saturday. I've read mixed reviews on whether the new smoke eaters are helping in the casino. Have you spent any time in there? Did you like the CD? Any favorite musicians? Thanks!

I'll reply: I did not see any smoke eaters on the Conquest, and my throat is still a bit raspy. I saw them on the Glory Journeys cruise in Jan/Feb, but they didn't have them on the Conquest, too bad.

Josh was the CD, I tend to tune them out once they start their spiel. He hosted the return guest party and mentioned some personal stuff about how his GrandMa helped him decide on a career path, but usually the Cd's spout the same corporate approved message from ship to ship. When I do pay attention to the announcements, I can anticipate what they will say next, so I may be jaded in my opinion.

There was quite a bit of variety in musicians, we had a 2 man calypso/steel drum, a guy playing an acoustic guitar, a woman on an accordion and a 6 or 7 piece ensemble complete with horns. The performers would shift locations, so they could be heard in different venues throughout the ship: poolside, in the casino, the atrium, and at parties. Nice diversity of styles.

I was on the Conquest in March and they DID have additional smoke eaters. They were actually in the corners of the ceiling on shelves.

I found it to be a little better, but the more crowded the casino....the more smoke...

Happy Sailing!!

Does the Conquest have areas near the pool for the acoustic players? I remember being on the Freedom a few years ago and we had wonderful acoustic guitar players that would play by the pool.

I was also on this cruise and IMO this was the worst entertainment I have seen on any of my 30 Carnival cruises.

The group in the atrium ( Sixappeal ) was very good, but at the casino bar they had no dance music. A lady playing an accordion, a string trio, a horn trio, and a steel drum duo does not add up to dance music. The casino bar used to be rockin and people dancing, not this cruise.

Bob, I spent alot of time at the craps table. Did you happen to see the layer of frost on that table,icon7.gif I was the guy with the NAVY hat.

We will be on her on the 30th! Looking forward to experimenting with the new Cheers! program and taking in some of the "new" changes, stateroom service, new music choices, etc. Sorry to hear about the Casino Bar music choices. That used to be one of our favorite night spots! Most of the reviews lately have sounded pretty positive.

One question: How was the MDR service? Reports vary on this one.

Thanks!

I agree about the shows and the music, but my husband and I spend most time in the Casino. They have cut back on the music near the casino as they have this guy who plays the guitar and a lot of "sleeper "music and is, quite frankly.....awful. I used to love when they had the bands by the Casino.

I saw no change in the stateroom service the last 3 times we were on the ship.

As far as the MDR, we had great wait staff every time.

The Conquest happens to be my favorite ship so far and we love the crew!

Happy Sailing!

The Steel Drum guys played under the big screen on deck 10 over the mid ship main pool during sailaway and the 1st 2 sea days.

Welcome back. Did you enjoy your cruise? You didn't say.

The Conquest is a beautiful ship. We enjoyed sailing on her twice.

The extra sea day (we had 3) made for a very relaxing cruise. Friendly staff, decent service and food.

On port days I went to various beaches that were for the most part not far from the port: St Maarten's water taxi to Phillipsburg town and beach, taxi to St Kitts Reggae Beach (I thought Carambola was much better), Grand Turk walk down the beach to Island Jerk instead of Jacks Shack.

San Juan was pouring when I got up and since we were leaving port at 2pm, I didn't want to rush off and then back on the ship. I would have gone to an Ocean Park Beach if the the rain had been earlier in the morning instead of at 11 - noon.

evanandbob,

Do you happen to have your FunTimes and Entertainment Schedule? If so could you post?

Sorry, no I don't keep them. They usually wind up in the cabin's wastebasket the day after.

The inserts, for the art auction, inch of gold promotions, watch sales etc.go in the wb immediately.

Perhaps the OP has saved some?

Thanks. Doing what appears to be the same itinerary as you did.

  • 1 month later...

How about embarking? Is there a specific time to get on? Can't find too much on that. We are not gold or platinum or FTTF. We are going on in about two and half weeks. Thanks!
