Patty Kott Posted April 19, 2016 #1 Share Posted April 19, 2016 Have sailed on Carnival several times and loved it. Sailing on Celebrity in June somethings I noticed I see that Carnival has that Celebrity doesn't have is the deli. We loved getting sandwiches from the deli for lunch. Also the Asian eatery we loved that as well instead of the buffet. Also noticed that Celebrity charges for room service after 11pm until 6am ($5). Celebrity also has what they call Bistro on Five and they charge $10 dollars p/p. Haven't been on Carnival since 2013. Just wondering if all cruises are starting to charge for a lot of things? I know they always charged for specially restaurants but don't remember these other things?

On the Summit it was towards the aft. I can't remember on the Reflection. I would imagine other ships are similar. To me, it was much better than the deli counter I experienced on Carnival. In the Ocean View Cafe on Celebrity there are sandwiches, chips, and deli salads at different times during the day and sometimes late in the evening. Definitely not like Carnival's deli where you can build your sandwich, but there are options available. I remember it being right before you head out to the Sunset Bar. I've not noticed the late night surcharge for room service on Celebrity but Carnival has starting charging for some RS items 24/7, some are still free, so maybe it is the trend. Bistro on Five is a alternative eatery and does charge (like some of them on the Sunshine) but there is plenty of "free" food. Each ship is different in the way the "buffet" area is laid out and what is open when... but in our last cruise we had no problem getting a great deli sandwich at the back of the ship just before the bar (on the Constellation). ready2cruzagain Posted April 20, 2016 #5 Share Posted April 20, 2016 A lot has changed on Carnival since 2013. Not sure if all of the ships but the Glory had the new room service menu and there are a lot of items on the room service menu that are charged for now. I absolutely love Celebrity. Go and enjoy yourself.
Xport Posted April 20, 2016 #6 Share Posted April 20, 2016 Does offer an Asian food station--which generally includes a made-to-order stir fry option--during designated hours [which are generous] at lunch and dinner... Similarly, there is a "cooked to order" pasta station... At breakfast, there are prepared to order omelet, Eggs Benedict, and waffle stations... The sandwich station includes the opportunity to have one's creations--they are built to your order--grilled panini-style... I haven't sailed Carnival but, based upon my reading, it seems to me that Celebrity's buffet offers most everything--perhaps, more--than Carnival's does with service approach the primary difference... spiritkat090909 Posted April 20, 2016 #8 Share Posted April 20, 2016 Only one Celebrity cruise (Silhouette) with several Carnival casino freebies... The buffet on Celebrity was well above average cruise ship... even the breakfast. Bananas foster by the waffle station. Fresh made eggs benedict station. And although the descriptions of the MDR food was not appealing, the food itself was again WELL above average cruise ship food. We never even thought of trying room service since we found the buffet open whenever we were hungry after dinner. The only carnival food missed was Guy's burgers. PAPERBKWRITER Posted April 20, 2016 #9 Share Posted April 20, 2016 Celebrity has outstanding food. they have a deli that is only open during lunch and dinner and a pasta station + hand dipped ice cream and big tasty cookies at lunch time. Nothing wrong with Carnival lido offerings but I think Celibrity has the edge. (MDR about equal)
