drb_2000 Posted May 9, 2016 #1 Share Posted May 9, 2016 (edited) Does anyone know what's happened to Maho Beach? It appears to have seen a tremendous amount of erosion over the past month or so. It used to be a beautiful beach that you could stroll down to the water's edge. Now there are exposed rocks and ledges. What gives? SET TO SAIL Posted May 9, 2016 #2 Share Posted May 9, 2016 I noticed the same thing when I looked at the WebCam this morning. Whatever happened must've been recent. I peek in thru the webCam frequently. I don't believe it was like that the last time I looked, which was either Friday or Saturday. It definitely wasn't like that the last time we were there, which was on April 13.
navybankerteacher Posted May 9, 2016 #3 Share Posted May 9, 2016 This seems to be a periodic change - a couple of years ago the beach had largely disappeared, only to return last year. Periods of consistent winds or weather patterns can cause beach "migration" on coastlines - which reverse after prolonged changes.
timhoke Posted May 10, 2016 #4 Share Posted May 10, 2016 We were just there in April, not a whole lot of sand left right now. The beach is maybe 50'wide. There is still a pretty big dip as you get into the water. You go from ankle deep to waist deep in one step.
