Ken_W Posted May 13, 2016 #1 Share Posted May 13, 2016 This question is for those whose memories go back as far as the Oceans Bookstore on QE2 during final years of service. The bookstore sold wooden puzzles in various sizes, mostly of QE2 herself but also various British scenes (I have the "Cities of the world -- London Tower Bridge" in front of me now. Most of the pieces are standard jigsaw puzzle pieces, but some of the pieces are in the shape of a ship's wheel, a cannon, a shield, etc.) I've looked over the box and there's no manufacturer and the only informative bit on the box says "Made in England". So, does anyone know the maker, whether they're still in business, if there are any more ship puzzles made of wood? I've googles wooden puzzles but cannot find any jigsaw puzzles featuring great ships. Thanks!
Salacia Posted May 13, 2016 #2 Share Posted May 13, 2016 Hi Ken. Interesting question. There are those who will make a wooden puzzle from a photo that you supply; here's one: http://www.mgcpuzzles.com/index.html (I just found that site on the internet - I have no personal experience of that puzzle maker.) -S
Ray66 Posted May 13, 2016 #3 Share Posted May 13, 2016 I have seen jigsaw puzzles in the QM2 book shop with the special shaped pieces. I think they might be wooden ones. I don't recall the make but I have found the following UK website that sells wooden with "unique whimsy shapes" https://www.wentworthpuzzles.com/ You could always try emailing Harding Brothers who I believe stock the shops http://www.hardingretail.co.uk/ http://www.hardingbrothers.co.uk/about-us/our-company/
Ken_W Posted May 14, 2016 Author #4 Share Posted May 14, 2016 Thanks for the tips, I'll check them out; I have... a few, I guess... ship photos I want puzzle-ized. And very happy to hear that QM2 still carry wooden puzzles for sale on board!
